∀ Gundam Ep. 24: Laura’s Howl

0
Summary

Cancer, Muron and the rest of the Red Team dance around a fire and praise the Moon. Later, Gavane fights off Muron’s Flat in a food raid by the Red Team. Sochie fires missiles at Muron and chases him away. On the Soleil, Harry tells Miran that people aren’t waiting for supplies and are starting to attack Earth villages. He says things have been difficult since the end of negotiations, and Miran asks Harry if he’s accusing him of laziness. The Gallop arrives at camp, and Loran looks at the desolated wasteland created by the Red Team’s attack. Sochie and Gavane get out of their suits, and she asks him why he likes her. He says he likes her determination and that she’s holding back tears to get revenge for her father. When she leaves, Aims comes and tells him that Inglessa fields haven’t been damaged because Dianna Counter is using them for food. Gavane wonders if Guin has formed an alliance with Dianna Counter but doesn’t say anything since Lord Borjarno wants to unite all the Militias. At the Soleil, Cancer and Muron are angry because Pou says their suits can’t be repaired by Dianna Counter due to shortages. Pou wonders if being on Earth makes people act stupidly, and Phil calls Cancer and asks her to calm down. Loran hears about Gavane’s proposal and thinks that Sochie is too young. Dianna doesn’t agree and thinks it’s a good idea. Yanny falls on the floor laughing when Joseph tells him and Michael about Gavane’s proposal. Elsewhere, Mallygan tells Lily and Guin that he objects to a common girl marrying the leader of the elite Suicide Squad. Guin tells him to let it go because it’s no fun to spoil people’s happiness. Harry tells Kihel that the fiefdoms are trying to unite, and she asks him to find Guin quickly. Muron harasses a mechanic who says he isn’t a real Moonrace citizen, and Cancer vows they will prove themselves. As Dianna drives to the hospital, the Red Team’s Flats jump over her car. Muron and the others begin robbing everyone while Cancer dances and demands that Laura Rolla come out and fight them.

Miashei helps load wounded soldiers onto trucks so that they can escape. Elsewhere, Sochie takes a shower and Loran stands by with a towel. Loran says that if she marries a soldier like Gavane she could end up a widow. Sochie accuses him of being jealous, and he denies the claim. Dianna arrives and tells Loran that the hospital is under attack by the Red Team. Sochie wants to fight, but Loran tells her to let Gavane handle it. She asks him if he wishes Gavane were dead, and he tells her she should take a break. He leaves to get the Turn A, and Dianna asks Sochie about Gavane. She slaps Sochie and says that if she marries him for unclear reasons she will yell at her as father would. From the air, Guin, Lily and Mallygan watch the attack on the hospital. Joseph uses his Flat to drive the Red Team away. Loran arrives at the hospital, and the head nurse accuses him of attacking the hospital because the other mobile suits seemed to have mustaches. Ladderum, Dianna and Horace arrive and explain that it wasn’t Loran. Horace says the Red Team is attacking villages now and wonders if it is a tactic to flush out Moonrace traitors. Later, Sochie prepares to go out to battle in her Kapool, and Dianna asks her to stay with the hospital to defend it. Loran takes off in the Turn A and finds the Suicide Squad fighting the Red Team. He says that attacking people in villages and stealing is not what Dianna wants. Cancer says they are creating an Earth paradise for Dianna but don’t want to live on Earth. Cancer pulls off the Flats mustache-like disc and throws it at Loran. He grabs it and uses it to slice off the Flat’s arm. They both fall down and their cockpits open. Cancer kicks Loran and says he is a traitor. Muron and Cancer retreat when Sochie and Miashei attack. Loran tells Dianna that the Red Team has been on Earth for several generations, and she realizes they are the descendants of the troops she left behind. She blames herself, and Loran tells her that despite living on Earth he hasn’t forgotten his devotion to her. As they hold each other and dance around, Dianna says she has to go back to the Moon to stop the war.

Commentary

Cancer and her bunch of weirdos show up again this time. These people are really strange. They’ve been on Earth for a few generations, but they act like 20th century hippies. Since their ancestors were left on Earth by Dianna, it was probably at the time that she was with Will Game and left him to go back to the Moon. The Sochie marriage thing comes up again, and this time she seems to be going with it. It’s kind of funny to see Yanny laughing like an idiot about it. He says his mind is always on warfare, and I don’t doubt it. The last moments at the end of the episode show Loran and Dianna are becoming much closer. For him at least it’s a dream come true.
