∀ Gundam Ep. 25: The Willghem Lifts Off

0
Summary

Final work is completed on the Willghem, and Guin wants to begin test flights immediately. As Sochie and Miashei eat, Sochie explains that Kihel vanished the night before and that Loran grabbed the Turn A to look for her. Gavane gives Sochie a nice formal dress, and Aims jokes that Gavane wants her to have the best clothes for their wedding. Dianna rides across the countryside in a car with Corin. They stop at a village that is being looted by Dianna Counter soldiers. Dianna sees that this is her fault because it’s her army. As a Wad pilot threatens an old lady, Fran jumps in and says she will take his picture and publish it in all the newspapers. The Wad leaves, and the old lady thanks Fran. Fran then bumps into a man who says it’s pointless to take pictures because the Borjarno family controls the newspapers and no one reads them. It begins to snow, and Fran watches it with an orphaned girl named Lulu. On the Soleil, Phil tells Pou that they now have an excuse to attack the Militia. Harry reports to Kihel that a woman looking like her was seen by Dianna Counter soldiers in a town. Phil reports to Kihel that the Willghem will be conducting test flights and that they have to destroy it. Kihel says she wants to capture it for their own use, and Phil says the consequences of the Willghem going to the Moon could be unimaginable. Kihel approves an attack on the Willghem, and Phil says he will go when it stops snowing. At the town, Fran and Lulu eat with Belleen at the bakery. Loran arrives looking for Dianna, and Keith comes home from work. Fran says he should be ashamed of selling bread to the enemy and slaps him. Keith says he makes bread and wants to sell it to people who are alive, regardless of what side they are on. He tells Loran he should escape because Guin cheated him and there hasn’t been any negotiation. Fran sees that she was wrong and apologizes to Keith.

Yanny calls Joseph in the Flat and wakes him up to report for duty. Fran joins him in the Flat as he looks at the Willghem. She asks him if he’s ever thought of marrying her, and he says that’s his dream. Sochie tells Loran she wants to talk to him, but he says it will have to wait until he gets back to the Gallop. Mobile artillery and mobile suits get into position as Pou and Phil approach with five Wodoms and five Wads. Joseph tells Fran to get off the Flat, and she positions herself to take pictures of the battle. Pou fires her beam cannon at the Militia, but Loran fires his beam rifle at the same time and disperses the attack. Joseph grabs bombs and starts throwing them at the Wads. Sochie and Miashei attack the Wads and destroy some of them. As the Wodoms try to attack, Loran keeps shooting at them and disabling them. Sochie and Miashei attack Phil’s Wodom, and he knocks them away like flies. As he attacks, Sochie is saved by Gavane and the Suicide Squad. As the Willghem‘s engine starts up, Guin calls Loran and asks him to buy some time for him. Loran drops his shield and beam rifle and runs toward a Wodom with both of his beam sabers. He jumps into the air and slices off both of the Wodom’s legs. The Willghem takes off and escapes safely overhead. Later, Loran apologizes to Gavane for not fighting in formation, and Gavane thanks him for destroying most of the enemy. Sochie tells Loran that Michael wants to speak to him, and Gavane says to Loran he’s probably going to get yelled at for running off on his own. Loran asks Sochie what she wanted to talk about, but she says it’s useless now. Later, the Willghem lands in another area and Guin and Lily examine the landscape. She comments that Loran isn’t an angel and that Guin hasn’t realized it yet. She says he is more like a leopard whose claws will rip him apart some day. Guin laughs and replies that he’s expecting that.

Commentary

As the title implies, this episode is mainly focused on defending the Willghem as it takes off. Dianna realizes that she has to take action to stop the war and leaves. It’s quite odd that of all people she ends up hitchhiking with Corin. I certainly wouldn’t want to ride in a car with a psycho like him. Sochie thinks that Loran is just running after her sister out of attraction for him, but she still doesn’t know that it’s Dianna he’s going after and not Kihel. The situation with the Moonrace seems to be getting worse, and Kihel is having trouble controlling the army. Joseph and Fran seem to be involved, and even they briefly discuss marriage. What I wonder is what Sochie wanted to say to Loran that she never said. Whatever it was, she seemed angry when he mentioned it later.
