∀ Gundam Ep. 30: Close to the Heart

0
Summary

Dianna meets with Miran and is taken into a capsule of the Soleil that separates from the ship and transforms into a shuttle. At a harbor town, the Militia lines up to greet Lily. Sochie transports Guin and Lily in her Kapool, and Lily asks her if she has spoken to Dianna yet. Sochie says that Guin won’t allow her, and he says it is because she hates the Moonrace. Lily remembers that Sochie’s father was killed, and Sochie still blames Dianna for his death. On the Willghem, Michael tries to convince the Moonrace crew that the girl with them is Kihel, but they insist it is Dianna. Lily tells them it could be anyone and that they’d rather have Dianna. Dianna’s shuttle lands in a field, and Miran tells her to get out and meet the escort. A limo pulls up, and the shuttle takes off and leaves. Midgard gets out of the limo, and Dianna recognizes him from the last encounter with Teteth. When Midgard tells her they will be crossing the ocean, she realizes that he intends to go to Manupichi as well. She tries to convince him that she is Kihel, but he knows she is Dianna. On the Gallop, Bruno and Jacop asks Loran if they will be crossing the ocean. Miashei comes aboard and tells Loran that Sochie has been acting strangely since Gavane died. Loran looks outside and sees her Kapool running away from Joseph’s Flat. Miashei and Fran tell Loran he should talk to her, so he gets into the Turn A and goes after her. Joseph asks what’s wrong with Sochie, and Loran says she has a lot on her mind. As he leaves, Loran remembers hearing that Joseph is going out with Fran now. Loran finds the Kapool near a cliff overlooking the ocean, so he covers up the Kapool to prevent Sochie from committing suicide. Sochie says she’s not going to do that, and Loran sees that she is wearing the wedding dress Gavane gave her. She asks him to point her in the direction of the nuclear bomb explosion. Sochie cries out Gavane’s name and asks if she looks good in his dress. She then asks Loran what he is going to do with the nuclear bombs, and he tells her he is going to dump them in space. Elsewhere, Cancer has a nightmare about the nuclear bomb explosion. She tells Muron that as long as the Militia has nuclear weapons Dianna is in danger. They both agree that they have to protect Dianna.

Joseph sees Fran taking pictures of people, and she explains to him that after the war is over she has to take normal pictures. She asks him what happened with Sochie, and he says that she was crying but then yelled that she was beautiful. Fran thinks that Sochie is pretty, and Joseph tells her he thinks she is too. Elsewhere, Loran checks the status of the nuclear bombs to see if it has enough dirt. He explains to Sochie that if the bombs go off that roughly 80 kilometers around the Turn A will be destroyed. She asks him if he is scared, and he says that if the Militia and Moonrace work together that they can abandon the terrible past. Bruno and Jacop give their Godwins to the Luziana Militia while Joseph escorts Fran to a Luziana ship. Nearby, Cancer and Muron watch the Willghem and decide to attack. Elsewhere, Militia soldiers salute Loran and Sochie and ask them to protect Guin. Cancer gets into her Wad and jumps onto the Willghem‘s bow. She threatens to blow up the ship unless they hand over the nuclear bombs. Guin doesn’t know what she is talking about, and he allows Muron to investigate the mobile suit hangar. Cancer pauses when she sees Kihel in the window and confuses her for Dianna. She tells Muron not to attack anyone, but he fires missiles and Loran and Sochie as they approach. Loran and Sochie duck behind a small island, and he hears Cancer and Muron talking to him on the radio. They say that as a Moonrace he should help them save Dianna. In the hangar, Guin holds a gun to Kihel’s head and demands that Cancer back off. Kihel tells Cancer that her own actions have forced Guin to do what he has and that she needs to leave. Muron becomes angry and attacks Sochie and Loran. He knocks Sochie into the water and creates a wave that knocks down Loran as well. He calls Loran a traitor, and Loran gets angry and says that the Red Team should talk instead of behaving as they are. Loran blows off one of the Flat’s legs, and Sochie shoots at the Flat too. Loran says they won’t attack the ship as long as Dianna is there, and Cancer overhears Sochie saying that it’s really Kihel that is there. Kihel says that the Red Team are descendants of Moonrace settlers and asks Guin to let them go. Cancer thinks that Kihel really is Dianna and agrees to leave. As Sochie and Loran try to catch up with the ship, she sees that the Kapool seems to be designed for use in the water.

Commentary

This episode features some character development as well as some plot developments. Dianna is off the Soleil now, but she’s in the hands of the creepy Midgard, who killed Teteth. Since he was connected to Teteth and her assassination attempts, it looks like he’s not out to protect Dianna either. Sochie’s bit with the wedding dress seems very disturbing, but one can see that this ritual is her way of letting go of Gavane and accepting his death. However, it doesn’t seem that she has done the same with regards to her father. Now that everyone is reunited, the story can pick up with the quest to Manupichi.
