In 2041, U.N. Spacy selected the VF-19A Excalibur to serve as its new main variable fighter as a replacement for the aging VF-11 Thunderbolt. After production began on the VF-19A, its design was modified in subsequent variants like the VF-19F and VF-19S. In addition to the changes implemented in the VF-19F, the VF-19S also featured improved engines and a new head that mounted four anti-aircraft laser cannons. The VF-19S’ other armaments were the same as the VF-19F, and it could also mount optional Aerospace Super Parts with additional weapons. In 2045, the Macross 7 long-distance emigration fleet deployed the VF-19S as part of its new unit, Emerald Force.
