The VF-1 Valkyrie served as U.N. Spacy’s main variable fighter during the cataclysmic Space War I in 2009-10 and in the chaotic aftermath. Although it was officially replaced in 2012 by the VF-4 Lightning III, it had a long service life in the decades that followed thanks to multiple upgrades. One such upgrade was the VF-1EX, which was updated to incorporate the EX-Gear control system developed in the 2050s for fighters like the VF-25 Messiah. The EX-Gear suit worn by the pilot transformed into the variable fighter’s control system and also served as an escape system. Additional upgrades with modern technology from the 2060s improved the VF-1EX’s performance, although it was not on the same level as new variable fighters. In 2067, Xaos’ Ragna branch used the VF-1EX to train new pilots and as such equipped the gun pods with paint ammo.
