As the Var Syndrome spread throughout the Brisingr Globular Cluster in the 2060s, Xaos formed the tactical sound unit Walkure to suppress its effects, which included making the infected suicidally violent. Walkure operated in concert with Xaos’ Delta Flight, which used five heavily customized versions of the VF-31A Kairos redesignated as “Siegfried” by Xaos Valkyrie Works. Compared to the VF-31A, the five Siegfried units used delta wing designs, featured improved engines with higher maximum thrust in space and used the improved AERIAL III flight control AI. The Siegfrieds implemented a fold wave system powered by fold quartz to extend the range of Walkure’s songs. This system also boosted engine operation by up to 15% when in use.

The Siegfrieds also equipped 16 Cygnus multi-drone plates that served multiple purposes, including projecting stages and holographic dancers, as well as having a defensive function. The Siegfrieds’ armaments were the same as the VF-31A and included a beam gun pod, an anti-air beam machine gun, two railguns, a pair of combat knives, a pinpoint barrier system and micro-missile launchers. The Siegfrieds could also mount a variety of equipment, including a fold booster and Super or Armored Packs. The VF-31E was piloted by Chuck Mustang, a native of planet Ragna, which housed a local Xaos branch. In contrast to the rest of Delta Flight, the VF-31E was an early warning and electronic warfare variant equipped with a retractable radome. Throughout 2067, Delta Flight frequently clashed with the Kingdom of Windermere, which was conquering planets in the cluster to tap into the power of their Protoculture ruins.
