Victory Gundam Ep. 2: The Day He Met the Machine

0
Summary

Shahkti thinks back to how she and Uso were living normal lives three days earlier in Kasarelia. She believes that if they stay any longer with the League Militaire that they won’t be able to meet up with Uso’s parents. Three days earlier, Uso was paragliding, until he was almost knocked out of the sky by Marbet’s Core Fighter. Marbet is being chased by a Zolo piloted by Garry Tunn and Cronicle’s Shokew. As Uso falls through the sky, Garry attacks Marbet and damages the Core Fighter, injuring her as well. Old man Romero Marvall and Odelo watch for signs of BESPA’s Yellowjacket Team and see Marbet being chased. Marbet flies through some abandoned buildings, and the Zolo’s beam rotors are damaged when Garry chases her. As Cronicle is about to fire at Marbet, Uso and his paraglider hit the Shokew and blind its cameras. When Marbet fires at Cronicle, Uso holds on to the suit and accidentally presses the button to open the cockpit. He gets inside and begins hitting Cronicle. Marbet lands nearby, and Cronicle and Uso continue to fight. Uso tells Cronicle that he shouldn’t fight when civilians are around. Cronicle tells him he has no right to live on Earth, and Uso says people from space shouldn’t come to Earth. With no one piloting, the Shokew crashes into a lake. Uso manages to stay in the cockpit and take off. He struggles to stabilize the Shokew in the air, and confused a Garry wonders what Cronicle is doing. He doesn’t think that Cronicle should be flying around recklessly just because he is the queen’s brother. Cronicle gets out of the lake and is embarrassed that he was beaten by a boy with a paraglider. Uso manages to display the Shokew’s instruction manual and quickly stabilizes it. Garry sees that the Shokew is flying normally and takes off. Cronicle wonders if Uso is looking for him as the Shokew flies about aimlessly. He fires a flare at Garry, but the flare lands in the water and does not go off.

Marbet attempts to apply first aid to her injured leg and is approached by Shahkti, Flanders the dog, and Haro. Shahkti takes a look at the wound and tries to tend to it. Haro leaves and finds Uso on a hover vehicle. Uso follows Haro and finds Marbet and Shahkti. He tells Marbet not to come back again and leaves with Shahkti. After they leave, Oi Nyung and Romero arrive, and Marbet asks if they had any idea BESPA would show up in such a place. Uso returns to his home and sends a fax to Katejina where he writes about piloting a mobile suit and his belief that the Zanscare Empire is coming to Earth. He hears a noise and sees some kids stealing his food. They include Odelo, Warren and Suzy. Uso hides his hand in his pocket, and Odelo threatens to throw a knife at him if he pulls out a gun. Later, Odelo explains that they were driven out of the town of Largaine by BESPA. Overhead, a large formation of Zolos flies towards Uwig. Cronicle sees the Zolos and notices that Minovsky particle density has increased dramatically. Odelo tells Uso and Shahkti how BESPA is using the guillotine of the Gachi Party to punish people on Earth. He says that even Suzy has witnessed the horror of the guillotine. The attack on Uwig begins, and Uso wonders if Katejina is safe. He leaves and is followed by Haro to the spot where he hid the Shokew. He takes off and is confronted by Garry. Garry wonders if Cronicle is a traitor or if the Shokew has been captured by the enemy. Garry attacks Uso, and Uso sets the beam rifle to auto fire on the ground. Garry blows it up and wonders if he got the Shokew. Uso comes out of the flames and uses a beam saber to slice into the Zolo. Garry ejects and falls through the trees. After the Zolo crashes, Uso takes its beam rifle and hurries to Uwig.

Commentary

Following the first episode, this flashback episode begins to explain just what the hell is going on here. Technically, this really should be the first episode. We see now how Marbet was injured, and how Uso embarrassed Cronicle and stole the Shokew mobile suit. Though the episode focuses mostly on Uso’s misadventures, there are some other things going on. Garry mentions that Cronicle is the brother of the queen, and apparently people are afraid of the guillotine and something called the Gachi Party. Uso and Cronicle’s fistfight in the cockpit of the Shokew reminded me of Judau and Mashymre from Gundam ZZ.
