In anticipation of an invasion of the Mars Sphere, Vagan developed the xvx-ooo Gurdolin as part of its Simplification & Streaming program. The program aimed to simplify mobile suit components and increase the efficiency of the assembly and maintenance process. Initially, some developers objected as they were too used to the status quo. However, the resource depletion and shrinking of the manufacturing lines due to the prolonged war, as well as the strong support given by Central Development and Research Command that Fezarl Ezelcant led, soon made the program one of the central components in the development of next generation suits.

The Gurdolin’s design was intended to be easy to use for newly trained mobile suit pilots. The Gurdolin was thus initially designed with stable movement and a well-balanced control system in mind. Its arms were also actually just one of its option parts; these parts allowed it to adapt to different situations and to realize mobile suit parts efficiency. Thanks to the creativity of the young developers, the finished product was well received even by veteran pilots. It had flawless handling performance, powerful acceleration, as well as strong defensive capability due to its unique shape that reduced the power of enemy’s attacks and a layer of anti-beam coating. Word about this spread to the frontline pilots, who then placed high hopes on it. Godom Tyneham was so impressed that he took a unit still undergoing test runs into actual combat. However, the price for Gurdolin’s stability in movement was a decrease in its turning performance, leading to monotonous movement patterns and other related weakness. Godom’s unit was destroyed in a battle with Seric Abis’ RGE-G2100C Clanche Custom, and the Gurdolin’s flaws were later corrected in the ovm-pp Golden Gurdolin Perfect.
