The YF-30 Chronos was a variable fighter developed by the Ouroboros branch of SMS (Strategic Military Services) in 2060. Its design was based on the prototype YF-24 Evolution, which also influenced the design of the VF-25 Messiah, VF-27 Lucifer and YF-29 Durandal. It was assigned the experimental YF designation to avoid having to disclose its existence to NUNS. The YF-30 incorporated parts collected from Protoculture ruins located on Ouroboros. The YF-30 implemented an aircraft control AI previously used on the YF-25 Prophecy. Its engines were enhanced versions of the type implemented on the YF-29 that was fielded during the Vajra War in 2059. The YF-30 also mounted a Fold Dimensional Resonance (FDS) system that amplified song energy and allowed it to navigate through dense fold faults.

The YF-30 featured a multipurpose container that could store different types of equipment or weapons depending on the mission. Its armaments included a heavy quantum beam gun pod, 12.7mm beam guns, an assault knife, a pinpoint barrier system and six underwing hardpoints that could mount anti-ship reaction missiles or other equipment. In 2060, SMS pilot Leon Sakaki used a YF-30 against the rogue NUNS Havamal squadron that was attempting to tap into the power of the Protoculture ruins on Ouroboros. Years after the incident on Ouroboros, the YF-30 served as the inspiration for a new variable fighter, the VF-31A Kairos.
