The YMT-05 Hildolfr was an experimental mobile tank that combined a tank chassis with a mobile suit-like torso. In its transformed mobile mode, the Hildolfr resembled the Earth Federation Forces’ RX-75-4 Guntank. The Hildolfr’s main weapon was a 30cm cannon, which could load multiple round types, such as High Explosive (HE) or Armor Piercing (AP). Two shovel arms were used to brace the Hildolfr while it fired its cannon. The Hildolfr was also equipped with smoke dischargers, and in mobile mode it could utilize Zaku machine guns. Despite its size and weight, the Hildolfr was surprisingly mobile in combat. The Hildolfr’s design was rejected in UC 0077, but in May UC 0079 was brought out of mothballs and assigned to the 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit on the Jotunheim. While the stated purpose was to collect new data for redeployment, in actuality it was meant as a stopgap reinforcement for Zeon troops on Earth. The Hildolfr was flown down to Arizona on a Komusai for testing, and pilot Demeziere Sonnen encountered a group of EFF pilots using stolen MS-06J Zaku IIs to attack Zeon forces. Sonnen single-handedly destroyed the entire enemy force, but at the cost of his own life. Six months after the Hildolfr’s destruction, Zeon’s Noisy Fairy team recovered its cannon and used it to create the custom attack unit MS-09 Dom Gnomides.
