Zambot 3 Ep. 21: Showdown! Jin Family

0
Summary

In the Bandock, Killer the Butcher angrily shouts to Barettar and Gizarr to kill the Jin family and that he’ll be in the same boat if he isn’t able to kill them. The King Beal ascends up to space. Kouzuki talks to Heizaemon about the inner structure of the Bandock. Ichitaro believes they can break into the Bandock with the Ion cannon. Kappei throws Ichitaro some food, which spills on him. The King Beal spots the Bandock. In their room, Kappei’s Grandmother gives Heizaemon a bowl he gave her when they were young. The ship shakes as it is rocked by explosions, caused by space mines striking the ship. Ichitaro tells Kappei, Uchuta and Keiko to head out, which they do. Kappei fires at the space mines with the Zambo Ace, blowing up many of them. Uchuta blasts through many of them as well, but a second wave appears. Kappei is able to save Keiko from a mine heading at her. The King Beal deploys its cannons and blasts away many of the mines in its path. Heizaemon’s bowl breaks. Another mine hits the King Beal, heavily damaging it. Uchuta’s younger brother goes to check a damaged part of the ship. More mines strike the ship, damaging it further, but the King Beal is finally able to pass through the mine field. On the Bandock, Zubutar wants to launch a Mecha Boost, arguing with Gizarr who decides to attack the Bandock with missiles. Uchuta’s brother and sister notice that the docking unit is broken. Ichitaro says missiles are approaching so they need to stay there. The King Beal fires at the approaching missiles. Many are destroyed, but more pass through so the Zambo Ace and other units fire at them. By disengaging their part of the ship, Uchuta’s younger brother and sister help them avoid the missiles heading at them. Butcher yells out to crush them upon hearing that the missiles didn’t work, threatening to chop off the head of his subordinates. He gets angry at them for not sending out a Mecha Boost. Heizaemon and Gengoroh spot the Mecha Boost Dangarun and tell Kappei and the others. They combine into the Zambot 3. They sent out a reconnaissance camera which is fired upon by the Dangarun. The Dangarun fires upon the Zambot, damaging it severely. Heizaemon says to approach the Zambot and deploy the barrier of the King Beal to help. They do so, and are able to repel the particle laser attack. The Dangarun launches another particle laser attack.

The King Beal deploys its barrier but a big part of the ship is blasted off as a result. The Zambot launches the moon attack on the Dangarun, but it simply repels the attack with its laser. Uchuta thinks they should charge in towards it. The Zambot uses its Zambot grap attack and throws its sais at the Dangarun, being able to crack many holes through it. The Dangarun launches a ball from its tail which entangles the Zambot with electrical wires. The Bandock approaches. Ichitaro asks Gengoroh what to do and he says they must destroy the Bandock. Several more missiles strike the King Beal. Uchuta’s mother tells her kids that they need to abandon the first Beal ship. Kappei hopes to sever the wire by throwing the Zambot into the path of an explosion. Butcher orders the King Beal to be destroyed. The Zambot’s legs and arms are able to break free of the wires and the Zambot departs the path of the missile explosions. The Zambot attacks the Dangarun. The King Beal charges the Ion cannon. Uchuta’s family, sans his father retreat to the cockpit of the main ship. The Bandock fires at the King Beal, which fires its Ion cannon. More of the King Beal is destroyed by the Ion cannon, severing an energy circuit to the Ion cannon. Butcher forces the Bandock to be rammed into the King Beal. Heizaemon realizes they need something as powerful as the Ion cannon to strike the Bandock with. He tells Gengoroh he’ll leave this to him. Kappei’s Grandmother shows him the bowl, fixed. She knows of his plans to head to the 2nd Beal ship and goes with him. Uchuta’s father tries to stop them, but they are dedicated to going. The 2nd Beal ship separates from the King Beal. Heizaemon tells Ichitaro he’ll deliver a critical hit to the Bandock. Butcher orders its shot down and fires more missiles. Ichitaro orders them to cover it and tells Kappei what is going on. Kappei slices through the Dangarun, destroying it. Heizaemon aims the 2nd Beal ship at the weak point of the Bandock. Kappei says to stop, firing off his missiles, but Heizaemon says the Zambot is not enough. He rams the ship into the bottom of the Bandock, destroying much of it. The ship blows up, killing Heizaemon and Kappei’s Grandmother. Everyone is saddened by the death of them. Kappei attacks the Bandock in a rage. Butcher orders Mecha Boosts to be sent out to get the Zambot off its tail. The Zondar Mecha Boost is sent out and fights with the Zambot, which destroys it. The battle is enough of a distraction for the Bandock to escape. Gengoroh says to do repairs; that they don’t have time to cry and to head after the Bandock.

Commentary

Another battle heavy episode, although largely lacking of the flaws seen in the previous episode. Looking like we are now entering the final battle as much of the King Beal is destroyed. Kappei’s Grandfather and Grandmother decide to sacrifice themselves to open a path into the Bandock, although it is able to get away. Effectively leading everyone since the start of the show, the loss of Heizaemon is a big one. Only two episodes remain, making me wonder if they’ll have time to resolve everything in that time.
