Following the end of the Bloody Valentine War, the Junius Treaty placed restrictions on the mobile suit forces of both sides. With a new focus placed on quality over quantity, ZAFT developed the New Millennium series of mobile suits, including the ZGMF-1000 ZAKU (ZAFT Armed Keeper of Unity) Warrior. Based on the more powerful ZGMF-X999A ZAKU Mass Production Trial Type, the ZAKU Warrior was in essence an update of the original ZGMF-1017 GINN with a host of new features. The ZAKU Warrior’s base armaments included a beam assault rifle, four multi-purpose grenades stored on the hips and a beam tomahawk stored in a spiked shield mounted on the left arm. The ZAKU Warrior could also be further equipped for various mission roles through the use of specialized Wizard packs. These Wizard packs could include additional armaments such as beam cannons or missile launchers. Some Wizard packs also featured extra thrusters for increased speed and mobility, as well as specialized equipment for combat in certain environments. Although the ZAKU Warrior’s standard production color was green, many pilots customized their units with personal color schemes. By October C.E. 73, the ZAKU Warrior had begun to replace the ZGMF-601R GuAIZ R and the aging GINN as ZAFT’s main mass production mobile suit.
