Although mass produced for use by ZAFT, the ZGMF-1017 GINN fell into many private hands. In October C.E. 73, a group of terrorists loyal to fallen PLANT leader Patrick Zala launched an operation to drop the remains of the Junius Seven PLANT on Earth. The incident, known as Break the World, caused massive damage to Earth’s cities and coastal areas. In the immediate aftermath of Break the World, insurgents began attacking areas across Earth. One area devastated by a tidal wave came under attack from a GINN Insurgent Type piloted by three Coordinator children. The insurgent unit was similar to a standard GINN, although it was outfitted with leg missile launchers, a machine gun and recoilless rifle. It was also equipped with four search lights, which were mounted on the hips, torso and head. A retired Earth Alliance officer named Edmond Du Cros used a Lineargun Tank to destroy the attacking GINN, but at the cost of his own life.
