The ZGMF-X56S/α Force Impulse Gundam was the ZAFT equivalent to the Earth Alliance’s GAT-X105+AQM/E-X01 Aile Strike Gundam. The Force Silhouette pack provided the Impulse Gundam with increased mobility in space, as well as atmospheric flight on Earth. The Force Silhouette pack was stored on the Minerva‘s dedicated hangar for the Impulse Gundam and was deployed via a computer-controlled Silhouette Flyer craft. The Flyer delivered the pack to the Impulse Gundam and automatically returned to the Minerva while the Force Silhouette pack docked with the Impulse Gundam via a laser lock. The only additional armament carried by the Force Silhouette pack was a pair of beam sabers. After sustaining damage in the final battle of the Second Bloody Valentine War, the Force Impulse Gundam was transferred from ZAFT to the peacekeeping organization COMPASS, which repaired and redesignated it as the ZGMF-56E2/α Force Impulse Gundam Spec II.
