In C.E. 73, ZAFT unveiled the ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam, one of its new Second Stage mobile suits. Inspired by the Earth Alliance’s GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, the Impulse Gundam was capable of mounting multiple Silhouette packs to fulfill various mission roles. The Destiny Silhouette pack combined the the armaments of the Sword Silhouette pack with experimental version of weapons later featured in the ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam. These test weapons included a pair of beam shield generators and two high-energy long-range beam cannons. Three ZGMF-X56S/θ Destiny Impulse Gundam units were constructed, two of which were test piloted by Courtney Hieronymus and Mare Strode. The Destiny Silhouette’s weapons proved too much of a drain on the suit’s battery, so the pack never entered into regular use with the first Impulse Gundam unit piloted by Shinn Asuka.
