The ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam was the configuration of Kira Yamato’s ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II equipped with the MDE262S Proud Defender support craft. The Proud Defender was initially developed by Kira and Compass engineer Albert Heinlein for use with the STTS-909 Rising Freedom Gundam, but it was later modified for use with the Strike Freedom Type II due to developmental delays. The Proud Defender’s greatest innovation was its ability to use telepathically controlled nanoparticles to create a high voltage electrical current that could be used to destroy targets. The Mighty Strike Freedom’s armaments included combinable beam rifles and beam sabers, CIWS guns, railguns, a hyper impulse gun, a beam shield and a katana. However, its most powerful new weapon was the “Disruptor” convergent heavy nucleon beam cannon. This devastating weapon could disintegrate atoms and suppress nuclear fission, which allowed it to break down targets without causing an explosive reaction. This weapon was so powerful that its use required authorization by Compass President Lacus Clyne. In C.E. 75, Kira rescued Lacus from the Kingdom of Foundation, and the two piloted the Mighty Strike Freedom together and defeated the NOG-M2D1/E BLACK KNIGHT SQUAD Cal-re.A piloted by Orphee Lam Tao, a powerful Accord who had become obsessed with Lacus as part of Foundation’s plot to reimpose the Destiny Plan on the world.
