Summary

Following the coup in the Chinese Federation, Schneizel takes Nunnally to a casino that Clovis designed in Area 11. Nunnally is impressed by the sounds of the casino, and Schneizel explains that he figured it was a good chance for a break given the recent tensions in China. Nunnally thinks the casino being completed today must be a gift from Clovis, and Schneizel comments that he loved giving people thinks. Cecile, Guilford and Kanon Maldini watch as Suzaku and Gino play Japanese pachi-slot machines. Cecile explains how the machines work and Guilford is surprised she knows so much about them. She mentions that she works in a stressful environment, and when Kanon asks if gambling relieves stress, she comments that they should go gambling together sometime. Suzaku and Gino win a huge amount of tokens, but Gino is bored of the place. Suzaku thinks things are slow because it’s the first day, so Gino thinks it must be the service. Guilford asks where Anya is and Cecile mentions that she’s off escorting Nunnally around. Nunnally is impressed by a dessert and asks Anya to take her over to a table to try more. Lloyd is surprised that the two are friends, so Kanon thinks it must be due to their similar ages. Schneizel thinks their souls might be drawn to each other, but Lloyd says that’s unscientific. Kanon thinks that’s wonderful, and Schneizel notes that Kanon is looking at him as he says that. Kanon explains that he’s just admiring Schneizel because he lacks self-interest. Kanon recalls their days at the Northern Bulliac school dorm where Schneizel was a model leader who wasn’t afraid to use the whip to enforce rules. Schneizel recalls that after making an example out of Kanon he never had to use the whip again. Gino asks Schneizel if he wants to play because Suzaku and Guilford suck at baccarat and poker. Schneizel wonders what he should do and Kanon comments that the troops would feel uneasy fighting for a commander who’s a weak competitor. Lloyd thinks everyone would be relieved if Schneizel wins, so he decides to do what’s expected of him and defeat Gino.

Commentary

This picture drama features the debuts of Schneizel and his ever present assistant Kanon. The short doesn’t even make any attempt at hiding all the sexual innuendo between Kanon and Schneizel. Kanon lovingly admires Schneizel’s words, and on top of that, he got whipped by Schneizel at school. I don’t doubt that he enjoyed that. Also, it seems like Clovis was a man of many talents. When he wasn’t busy massacring Japanese people, he was designing art museums, amusement parks, skimpy bikinis and casinos. Perhaps he should’ve chosen another line of work instead of being an Area governor.
