Heavy Metal L.Gaim is a TV series that aired exclusively in Japan from 1984-1985. Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, its staff includes character/mechanical designer Mamoru Nagano and composer Kei Wakakusa. The series is set in the far off Pentagona System that includes five habited planets. The story focuses on Daba Myroad, the last member of a deposed royal family who is fighting against the rule of the system’s leader, Oldna Poseidal. The TV series was followed by a three-episode OVA, the first two of which were compilations, while the third was a new story. The aesthetic that Nagano developed for L.Gaim would later inspire his own manga and anime series Five Star Stories. In 2017, the TV series streamed on the now defunct Daisuki service, but it has never received a North American home video release.
