The Big O is a TV series that debuted in Japan in 1999. Directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama, the production staff includes writer Chiaki J. Konaka, character/mecha designer Keiichi Satou and composer Toshihiko Sahashi. Taking inspiration from the aesthetic of Batman: The Animated Series, the story is set in Paradigm City, a bustling metropolis that experienced a mysterious event 40 years ago that caused everyone to lose their memories. The story focuses on Roger Smith, a top Negotiator who pilots the MegaDeus robot known as Big O. The initial Japanese broadcast was not successful, but its popularity on Adult Swim led to the creation of a second season titled The Big O II. The series was initially released by Bandai Entertainment and has since been re-licensed by Sentai Filmworks.
