Combat Mecha Xabungle (aka Blue Gale Xabungle) is a TV series that aired in Japan from 1982-1983. Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, it took a lighter tone than his works that preceded and followed it. Other production staff include mechanical designer Kunio Okawara, character designer Tomonori Kogawa and composer Koji Makaino. Set on planet Zola, the story focuses on Jiron Amos, a young man hunting down the outlaw Timp Sharon to avenge the murder of his parents. The planet’s ruling class allows retribution for crimes within three days of its occurrence, but Jiron continues to chase Timp long after that period ends. The TV series was followed by a compilation movie, and both have been released on home video in North America by Sentai Filmworks’ Maiden Japan label.
