Xabungle Ep. 45: Stand Facing the Sun

0
Summary

The rocket craft used by the Gallier and Xabungle continues to make its way through the snow. Birin confirms with Arthur that he’s doing okay in the container. Rag and Maria also talk to Arthur but he confuses them for Birin. The craft crashes to a halt. The Gallier and Xabungle are immediately fired upon and try to avoid things while protecting the container with Arthur in it. Rag tells Jiron to hold the container in front, thinking the Innocent will hold back since Arthur is inside. The pursuing landship reports back to Kashim King and his subordinates. Kashim asks about the status of Elchi’s landship and also orders Shock Troopers to head out and blast a hole in Arthur’s container. On the Iron Gear, Kotsett asks Medick what he thinks Arthur is like. In the Xabungle, Maria tells Dyke to fight back more. The Gallier makes its way down a cliff. Jiron checks in on Arthur, who claims to be using some sterilization on himself as he’s not confident the barrel is entirely safe. Arthur says Jiron is proof the Civilians have evolved and he wants to hand authority over to them. They finally reach the Iron Gear, whose occupants realize that they have been able to bring Arthur with them. The Innocent Shock Troopers approach. Kaldas’ landship also approaches in order to help out the Iron Gear. The Gallier and Xabungle make their way to the Iron Gear‘s deck and work on fighting off the Shock Troopers. Maria, Birin and Rag climb down in order to help Arthur get inside. A blast hits the container, breaking it open to everyone’s dismay. Later, Arthur has been brought into the medical room where Medick looks at him and everyone watches from the hallway outside. Kashim’s subordinates report back to him on Arthur’s container being blasted open. They are confident Arthur is dead, but Kashim is not as sure. Rag brings Jiron some coffee to drink. Chill tells them Arthur is going to be okay. Maria and Medick tell everyone there is a special medicine in his body keeping him alive. Arthur says the medicine won’t last for long, but what he needs to do won’t take long either. He claims there is a place less than 50 kilometers away called the Eternal Valley, a holy ground claimed to be the first step in reviving the planet. He is confident that not all of the Innocent are like Kashim and wants to use a satellite system there to speak to all of them.

The Iron Gear approaches the Eternal Valley, revealed to be a destroyed city. Arthur claims this is where his ancestors first returned to Earth 250 years ago. He claims they began the Human Reincarnation project as the changes to the Earth meant they couldn’t live there normally like they had in the past. On her new landship, Elchi keeps thinking of the word Carrying as a name she likes and orders the landship to take that name. She demands to know when they will catch up to the Iron Gear. Arthur points towards a partially destroyed tower where he claims the satellite equipment is. Kaldas contacts the Iron Gear claiming the enemy fleet is moving. Rag, Maria and Elchi all warn Jiron to be careful with Arthur as he brings him to the tower. Jiron heads out on the Gallier with Arthur and Chill. Arthur complains about the Gallier as they make their way there. The enemy fleet meets up with Kaldas’ forces. Meanwhile the Carrying approaches Eternal Valley. Elchi knows the Salt forces are trying to help the Iron Gear and she orders them to head straight for it. The Gallier makes its way up the partially destroyed tower. They find the room at the very top empty at first, then realize there is an elevator. They head up it and after clearing security clearance find various robots working off of solar power. Arthur tells them to get the broadcast ready. He shows Jiron and Chill footage of a satellite. Kashim is told of the upcoming satellite transmission but realize it is too late, Arthur has already started it. Kashim’s men tell him many Innocent are questioning things since Arthur was reported to be dead. Arthur says they should hand control of the planet over to the Civilians. He also says the Innocent should try to exit the domes and adapt to the outside world. This surprises even Kashim’s subordinates, and he claims this is a fake Arthur. Arthur says to defeat Kashim as the broadcast goes out. The Carrying starts firing at the Iron Gear. Dyke and Blume get into the Xabungle, but the hatch won’t open. Elchi wants to finish off the Iron Gear, but is told they are running low on ammunition. The Iron Gear transforms into its Walker Machine mode and fires back at the Carrying. Elchi orders the Carrying to ram itself into the Iron Gear. The Iron Gear responds by stepping on it. The tower, having taken so many hits collapses to the ground. Fatman jumps out of the Iron Gear and heads to the Carrying, finding an unconscious Elchi. He beats up Elchi’s subordinates and rushes out with Elchi, getting helped out by the Gallier. Later, Elchi has been strapped to a chair in the Iron Gear and is asked to remember who she is. She claims everyone are her foes. Arthur doesn’t know what to do in order to help her. Kotsett wonders what effect Arthur’s broadcast has. Jiron sheds some tears as the shouting Elchi is brought off the bridge.

Commentary

We have some big events occurring in this episode, which in a rarity, picks up immediately after where the previous episode left off. Jiron and the others are able to get Arthur to the Iron Gear, and despite his capsule being ruptured, he is able to survive. Due to his help we make our way to Eternal Valley, where he is able to make a broadcast to all the Innocent. Kashim’s attempts to control the Innocent seem to be going up in smoke, and it was interesting to see even some of his underlings question things. Elchi seems to have some memories poking their way through her brainwashing as she names her new landship after her father, Carrying, who died all the way back in episode 4. Unfortunately for her she gets the Carrying trashed immediately due to her recklessness. This enables our heroes to also take her back, although the problem of her brainwashing still exists.
