Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann is a TV series that aired in Japan in 2007. Created by Gainax, it is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi with mechanical designs by Yoh Yoshinari, character designs by Atsushi Nishigori and a score by Taku Iwasaki. Set in a far future where people are forced to live underground, the story focuses on Simon, a boy with an affinity for drilling who discovers a lost mecha. Heading to the surface with his best friend Kamina, Simon embarks on what will become an intergalactic struggle. A Japan-exclusive mini episode was included with a Nintendo DS game. The series was followed by a pair of movie adaptations. It aired in North America on the Sci-Fi channel and was originally released on home video by Bandai Entertainment. It has since been re-released directly by producer Aniplex.
