Xabungle Ep. 43: The Grand Free-for-All Search for Yop

0
Summary

A tired Jiron asks the crew when they are meeting up with others from Salt. Jiron has them taking a route that he doesn’t think Elchi will find them on. Jiron goes to the Gallier and heads out on patrol with Dyke as his copilot. Rag tells him to not screw things up as they head towards D point, where they plan to meet up with Salt members and suppliers. Kotsett and Rag talk about what they might find at Yop. Chill finds Maria praying with several of the children and asks what’s going on. A Doran pilot spots the Gallier and reports back to the Gear Gear. Greta tosses around several of the men and freaks out the communications officer. At an Innocent Dome, Biram refuses to provide Elchi with any more forces. She argues with him and Dowas for a while, but Biram eventually agrees to supply her with additional Dorans for one more battle. Greta departs the Gear Gear in one of three Dorans. She plans on settling things before Elchi’s return. Back on the Gallier, Jiron warns Dyke that they are coming up to some Innocent domes. Biram reports to Kashim King who demands he take out the enemy and ponders if he has too much a load on his plate. Greta and her allies catch up to the Gallier and start firing at it. The Gallier heads into a cave but is soon spotted by Greta. Jiron and Dyke combine the Gallier and blast one of the Dorans, whose pilot jumps into Greta’s cockpit. Greta continues pursuing the Gallier and her Doran soon is seen by it, which blasts it and flees further away. The Gallier approaches a passageway out of the cave, bringing it to a wooded area populated by many Innocent domes. Some gun turrets start blasting at the Gallier which fires back. Jiron is dedicated to finding a map so they can find Arthur Rank. The Gallier blasts several gun turrets and briefly looks into an Innocent dome before heading along further.

Jiron and Dyke break into another dome where the Innocent living there burn some things. He claims to not have a map of Yop, but at gunpoint Jiron forces him to bring him to his library where they can only find limited information. The Innocent flees from Jiron and Dyke, complaining about the air. Greta’s Doran continues the pursuit. Jiron and Dyke head into another Innocent dome, finding it empty, although they do find a dining room with food laid out. On their way out they come across several more Innocent. Meanwhile Elchi yells at her men upon finding out that Greta has headed out. Dowas goes to see Biram, who is angry as the Gallier has been attacking the Innocent’s villa. He orders Dowas to head out personally and show the breakers that an Innocent can fight. The Innocent say they don’t know anything about Yop and that Arthur only visits once per year. Jiron lets them go. Greta digs through some supplies for more weapons to use. Jiron finds a communication device thinking they’ll be able to use it to help in tracking Arthur Rank’s location. Greta and her men see the Gallier departing and return to their Doran. Jiron and Dyke make their way to another Innocent dome and find an Innocent named Kuramu Matsumi waiting for them. He tells them he can give them the information they need as long as they rescue Arthur Rank, who he claims is surrounded by enemies. Kuramu says he will come with them as well. Suddenly the door opens and several Innocent robot guards open fire, killing him. Jiron and Dyke return to the Gallier, but Jiron realizes he doesn’t have a key. Dowas personally leads an attack in his own Brockary Walker Machine. Dowas is shot upon by Greta, who doesn’t want him interfering. Greta gets out of the Doran and demands Jiron come out and fight her. Jiron hot-wires the Gallier causing Greta to flee back to the Doran. Dowas finds that shouting out orders are having no effect. Jiron happily looks through the book of maps provided by Kuramu. Meanwhile Elchi’s Gear Gear leads an attack on the Iron Gear. Both the Iron Gear and Gear Gear transform into their Walker Machine modes and start punching each other. The Iron Gear is able to get several blows on the Gear Gear. Elchi is knocked from the Gear Gear, coincidentally into Greta’s arms. She demands Greta to head to Point Y and blames her loss on Greta when Dowas shows up.

Commentary

This is another episode that didn’t feel that necessary to me, beyond a few minor “moving the chess pieces” events like Jiron and Dyke getting a map to Yop. This episode shows us some more Innocent who are not part of the fighting, much like an earlier episode where our heroes kidnapped one. Finding Kuramu was very convenient for Jiron and Dyke, but it was quite absurd how he gets killed by random guards mere seconds later. It was interesting to see that there are some in the Innocent who are fine with Salt “rescuing” Arthur though. Greta is the main focus from an antagonist standpoint during the episode and there are a lot of gags over her creeping out her male colleagues. The battle between the Iron Gear and Gear Gear at the end is extremely rushed, and really come out of nowhere with just a couple of minutes left in the episode. Some better pacing could have helped this out tremendously. Surely we didn’t need to spend as much time with Greta and her underlings following the Gallier as we got.
