L.Gaim OVA Ep. 2: Farewell My Lovely

Summary

A beautiful field filled with fairies is blown up in a giant explosion. Poseidal (Mian) tries to stop Full Flat from tampering with the bio-relation and is electrocuted. Later, the two talk in Poseidal’s mansion and Full tries to remind Mian of the past. Kyao breaks into the room and tries to attack Mian, but soldiers arrive and he is unable to get her. Daba bursts through the room with the L.Gaim Mk-II seconds later. Mian runs and is cornered by the L.Gaim Mk-II. Full runs in front of the L.Gaim Mk-II’s buster launcher and protects Mian. A nearby explosion causes the L.Gaim Mk-II to fall on Full, crushing her. Mian runs away. Meteors are launched at Gastogal from outer space as part of the Daba’s Star Dust plan. Mian tries to contact Olibee and wonders if she’s been killed. Olibee struggles in her bed aboard the Sarge Opus while Gavlet watches in horror. Meanwhile, the Turner descends into the Gastogal atmosphere, and Daba is eager at the chance to finish off Giwaza. Daba heads out in the L.Gaim Mk-II in order to rescue Olibee. He and Leccee fight heavy metals around Giwaza’s ship. Daba, Leccee and Rockley Ron see a vision of Olibee near Giwaza’s ship. Meanwhile, on Gastogal Amandara and his butler Eiman head towards the heart of Veto. Full gets into a Gayrahm heavy metal and heads out to join the fight. Daba tears a hole through the Sarge Opus and travels through it in the Viewy. Daba reaches the bridge and demands to know Olibee’s location from Giwaza. The two of them fight. Gavlet also heads to the ship and rushes in to look for Olibee. When Anton carries out Olibee, Giwaza gets the better of Daba. Gavlet arrives and Daba is able to escape with Olibee. Leccee brings Daba’s Viewy back with her to the ship. Amandara finds Mian in Sveto and argues with her about what to do. Amandara calls out to Daba and demands he surrender. Daba and the others head out towards Sveto in their heavy metals. Rockley fires at them from above and Amu heads up to fight him. Olibee leads Daba through Sveto. Mian continues to argue with Amandara. She refuses to believe she’s not Poseidal and escapes through a passage in the wall. During a fight Olibee is knocked out of the L.Gaim Mk-II but is rescued by Amu in the L.Gaim. Rockley arrives to fight the two heavy metals. After some fighting Daba escapes and heads down a long stairway with Olibee, who shows him which way to go. Amandara finds Mian again, who is shot by Eiman. Mian overpowers Amandara when he tends to her and yells at him for the way he’s been controlling Pentagona. Olibee can sense her feelings. Hans Arahart and Mahoul Semujun arrive to help Mian, and Daba arrives seconds later. Mian agrees to go with him, but Amandara grabs her and Eiman shoots Daba’s gun out of his hands. Soldiers arrive, forcing Amandara, Daba and Olibee to flee. Daba heads back out in the Viewy and gets back into the L.Gaim Mk-II. He leaves Olibee with Amu. Giwaza heads toward Gastogal with the asteroid base Metta, planning to crash it into the planet.

Back in Sveto, Amandara is captured by Mian’s troops but manages to get away when the ceiling collapses. Daba heads down in the L.Gaim Mk-II and chases Amandara to a room where the Original Auge is revealed. Amandara gets into it, promising to show Daba his full strength. Mian collapses and is brought away by Hans and Mahoul. Amandara’s hair and eyes revert back to their original color, making his transformation back into Poseidal complete. Gavlet confronts Amu and Amu agrees to hand Olibee over to him if he’ll help Daba. The Original Auge completely overpowers the L.Gaim Mk-II. Mian, feeling the power leaving her, tells her underlings to bring her to the Shrine of Lachesis. Daba is unable to penetrate the Original Auge’s barrier and the L.Gaim Mk-II’s arm is torn off. Daba is finally able to get a hit in on the Original Auge and wonders what’s going on. Concerned about his energy supply, Poseidal prepares for his final attack. Giwaza is told that Metta will strike Sveto in 10 minutes. The Turner is unable to contact Daba or Amu. Leccee, looking around for Daba finds the Lachesis shrine, with the corpses of Hans and Mahoul in front of it. Leccee runs in and sees Mian collapsed on the steps of the shrine. Gavlet departs the Slender Skala and heads to Sveto. Daba strikes the Original Auge just as Mian sits in the seat of the Lachesis shrine. Gavlet arrives to help. The bio-relation deactivated, Poseidal ages tremendously to his death and Mian crumbles to dust. Now un-piloted, the Original Auge collapses. Sveto suddenly rises from the sea and moves, avoiding the crashing Metta. Knowing that Sveto used up all its energy moving, Giwaza now only has to defeat the rebels to complete his take over. Daba takes over the original L.Gaim from Amu and tells everyone that Poseidal has been killed. The rebellion, now invigorated, destroy much of Giwaza’s troops. Baan Gania Killas attacks Daba, but with Kyao’s help, Daba soon takes care of him. The Slender Skala fires at Giwaza’s ships from the atmosphere. The Turner sends the buster launcher out to the L.Gaim. Giwaza flees to the Sarge Opus‘ escape shuttle and takes off. He attacks Gavlet, but Daba promptly vaporizes him with the buster launcher. The remaining troops surrender to the rebels, who celebrate their victory. Daba says goodbye to everyone and heads off with Olibee; brain damaged from the ordeal. Leccee tells Amu that Amandara got his final revenge on the Yaman Clan since Daba will spend the rest of his life taking care of her. The Turner departs Sveto.

Amu wrestles Mahoul in a large arena in Sveto. Kyao, Daba and Gavlet are the announcers for the event. Amu keeps trying to talk to Daba during the match and Leccee tags herself in. Pamela, now tagged into the match to face Leccee, has some of her costume accidentally torn off, exposing one of her breasts. Amu yells at Leccee for what happened. Lilith next joins the fight to take on Elaine. When Lilith tags out, Amu and Leccee fight with each other over who’s going to go back in. They attack Elaine when she tries to butt in between them. As the fight escalates, Leccee and Amu pull out guns and end up blowing up the entire arena. Even that isn’t enough to stop them fighting each other, however, as they take each other on in the wreckage afterwards.

Commentary

The way this second OVA episode started it looked like things were going to be a jumbled mess like the first one. The fairy scene to start things off doesn’t fit at all and is completely irrelevant to the rest of the OVA. Scenes with Full and Mian jumble the start of the OVA and after Full is killed, suddenly we switch back to multiple episodes before when she was still alive, making little to no sense. However, around this point things start coming together and the OVA essentially becomes a compressed version of the last three episodes. Is it great? Not particularly since we are lacking the proper build up to this recap of the finale. A much preferred method is to watch the original episodes of the series. That said, it is at least a little more coherent than the first OVA episode, enough to bring the overall episode rating to a 2 out of 5. The Pentagona Dolls segment is about 3 or 4 minutes of all-new material, showing a wrestling match between the various women of L.Gaim. An ok segment, not but good enough to raise the overall rating. So far the L.Gaim OVA series has left me very disappointed, although things should improve with OVA III, which is all new footage.
