Aim for the Top! 2: Diebuster (aka Gunbuster 2) is an OVA series originally released in Japan from 2004-2006. It is a follow up to Gainax’s 1988 OVA Aim for the Top! Gunbuster. A mostly new staff worked on this series, including director Kazuya Tsurumaki, mechanical designer Junya Ishigaki, character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and returning composer Kouhei Tanaka. Set in the far future, the series focuses on Nono, a young girl who wants to become a space pilot like her idol “Nonoriri.” Nono joins the space pilot group Topless and joins the fight against Space Monsters. The OVA series was followed by a compilation movie released on a double bill with a Gunbuster compilation. The series was released on home video in North America by Bandai Visual USA, but is now out of print.
