Metal Armor Dragonar is a TV series that aired exclusively in Japan from 1987-1988. Airing after the conclusion of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, it reuses multiple story elements from the 1979 series Mobile Suit Gundam. Directed by Takeyuki Kanda, it features mecha designs by Kunio Okawara, character designs by Kenichi Ohnuki and music by Kentaro Haneda and Toshiyuki Watanabe. Set in 2087, the series focuses on Kaine Wakaba, Light Newman and Tapp Oceano – three civilian teens who accidentally end up piloting the prototype Dragonar units and are thus drawn into the war between the Earth Federation and the Lunar Empire of Giganos.
