GaoGaiGar Ep. 12: Tomorrow

0
Summary

After the Isolde incident, the 3G robots are recovered and sterilized. Entouji calls Ai and makes up another excuse for Mamoru being late. Leo and Hyuuma analyze the Zonder metal crystal and discover that its structure is identical to the G-Stone, which explains why the Zonders never assimilate the 3G robots. Leo then goes to oversee GaoGaiGar‘s maintenance and notes that the constant use of Hell and Heaven is causing extensive damage to its body, which Taiga surmises will eventually start to affect Guy. Guy drops Mamoru home, and the latter asks if he’s feeling ok after the intense battle at Isolde. Guy assures him he’s still the strongest cyborg on Earth. When Isamu arrives home, Ai tells him and Mamoru that she won a trip to Okinawa, so they all decide to go there on the holiday. Elsewhere, Pasdar is furious at the loss of the Zonder metal plant and demands that GaoGaiGar be destroyed. Guy and Volfogg go over the functions of 3G’s ships and note they might need to modify them in the future. Guy is afraid of what would have happened if the various Zonders they destroyed had fulfilled their purpose, and Volfogg tells him that he’ll fight too if need be. Guy reminds him that he’s an intelligence robot and his main job is to protect Mamoru. Volfogg hopes that the situation won’t escalate to require the use of Projectile X.

At school, Mamoru invites Hana to come with him on the family trip to Okinawa. Hana remembers back when they used to play together in Hokkaido and asks of he still remembers their promise. Pizza and Penchinon go over the 3G robots’ abilities, and Pizza says that the real threats are Mamoru and Guy. 3G conducts a mock battle between GaiGar and HyoRyu and EnRyu, followed by them forming GaoGaiGar and ChoRyuJin. ChoRyuJin gains the upper hand at first by blocking GaoGaiGar’s hands with his cranes and pelting him with shots from his arm guns, but then Guy gains a burst of strength and lifts ChoRyuJin over his head, ending the battle. Polonaise and Primada decide to target Galeon so GaoGaiGar can’t be formed again. Leo fears the consequence of the G-Stone and Zonder metal clashing at full power. As the day of the Okinawa trip draws closer, Ai is again worried that the North Pole Lion will show up and take Mamoru again, but Isamu assures her that he won’t because Okinawa has a warm climate.

Commentary

This is more or less an expository clip show, telling us things we already know and hinting at new facts and things yet to come. Most of the recycled footage was rearranged and given new dialogue and some new footage was peppered throughout, chiefly that of GaoGaiGar and ChoRyuJin’s mock fight. Also of note is how the Final Fusion sequence started with GaiGar still docked to StealthGao and DrillGao, which is a nice bit of consistency.
