GaoGaiGar Ep. 24: Disconnected Protect

0
Summary

Down in 3G’s Big Order Room, Taiga and Hyuuma formally introduces Mic Sounders the 13th and the Brave Robot Corps to each other while Leo and Liger bicker and argue. Mic marvels at the 3G robots’ abilities but Liger can’t offer up anything on Mic beside his ability to fly. Mic feels useless but Taiga cheers him up by letting him take Mamoru home. Guy reminds him not to draw too much attention to himself because he’s a highly classified robot.

Mamoru rides on Mic’s shoulder as they fly home. Mic admits that he took a longer route to hang out with Mamoru more. Mamoru thinks about his power and wonder what his friends would do if they found out. Mic promises him that he’ll be his friend forever. Pasdar gathers his Machine Kings and they all agree that with their reserves of Zonder metal dwindling, they need to take out Mamoru before building a new metal plant. Mic goes inside the Multi-Dimensional Intelligence Submarine and accesses 3G’s battle records by impersonating Volfogg’s voice. He records the data and walks past the camouflaged Volfogg, who wonders what he was up to. Liger gets a copy of the data from the Baribarien and notes that all he has to do now is get the Zonder metal crystal sample from the 3G labs without Leo noticing. At night, Mamoru leaves to join his friends at the amusement park. Isamu notices Ai’s worried looks, and tells her that Mamoru is growing up and will leave them eventually. Ai wants him to stay a child for a bit longer. Pizza streaks through the sky while Hana walks Yoseph. She spots Kaidou staring out at the ocean and invites him to join them at the amusement park. They meet up with Mamoru and the rest just as a parade starts. Also attending are Guy, Mikoto and Swan, who are surprised when they see Mic posing as a parade float. Guy heads off to get some refreshments and Swan flusters Mikoto by jokingly saying she’s interested in him. Pizza lands on top of a pirate ship ride and hurls it towards Mamoru. It’s knocked aside at the last second by a sound wave, and everyone turns in surprise to see a blue guitar-totting robot that flies off into the night. Kaidou notices Pizza and tries to hit him with a psychokinetic blast, forcing the latter to flee. Guy and Mamoru wonder who the robot was. Liger who is among the crowd of onlookers wonders why the block was released, while Volfogg who was watching everything from afar confirms the blue robot’s identity.

Commentary

Most of this episode was a clipshow, but the last half showed some interesting developments. What does Liger plan to do with the battle data and the Zonder crystal, and why is he doing it without the consent or knowledge of 3G? The guitar robot would have added a nice bit of mystery to the mix, but only if it wasn’t so damn obvious that it was Mic. Even if you somehow missed all the hints up to that point the scene itself is a dead giveaway. It’s also nice to see Guy and Mikoto out of work enjoying themselves, and Kaidou again demonstrates that he’s not exactly your average grade schooler. Meanwhile, the Zonderians are starting to run low on Zonder metal and will probably start resorting to more desperate measures in the future now that’s they’re fully focused on taking out Mamoru.
