GaoGaiGar Ep. 30: Braves, Death at Dawn!

0
Summary

Pasdar morphs his upper body into a demonic form and the raised section of Tokyo starts rising even more. Leo notes that Pasdar is collecting energy to turn Tokyo into a spaceship. Mikoto is unable to reach Guy and Kazou reports that repairs on HyoRyu and EnRyu will be done soon. Guy and Mamoru are trying to climb out of Pasdar’s chamber when they spot a car falling towards them. They’re saved at the last minute by Volfogg, who’s alive but heavily damaged. Volfogg tells them to escape quickly but they refuse to leave him behind. Galeon gets their attention by showing them a wall they can bust out of. As the 3G continues to monitor Pasdar, Guy calls in as they bust out of Tokyo and asks for the Gao machines to be sent out. Mikoto tells Guy that he needs maintenance but Guy retorts that if he doesn’t fight now all their efforts will go to waste. Leo asks Mamoru to adjust Guy and Kazou says that HyoRyu, EnRyu and the Gao machines can launch anytime. Taiga tells everyone that this is their final operation and orders all forces to move out and stop Pasdar from reaching space at all costs. GaoGaiGar and ChoRyuJin are formed while Mic and Volfogg undergo repairs. Ai and Isamu spot GaoGaiGar and Isamu thinks that maybe Galeon was protecting Mamoru all along and not trying to take him away. Guy, ChoRyuJin and Goldymarg arrive in front of Pasdar and open fire, but they don’t even cause a dent in his barrier. Pasdar unleashes a powerful wave from his hand that blows them all away, so they switch tactics and attack him from the sides. Guy connects with the Dimension Pliers and tries to cause a rift in the barrier but that fails as well. Pasdar leeches the aluminum out of the surrounding buildings and uses them as mirrors to reflect a powerful laser attack around GaoGaiGar’s Protect Shade, slicing off several parts. Leo can’t believe he performed all the targeting calculations instantly and Taiga remarks that he’s harnessing all the electricity of Tokyo as his power. Guy tells Pasdar that they’re not done yet.

Pasdar fires more lasers at the Brave Robot Corps and releases all the energy in the Zonder metal around the city, draining the energy from the GS-Rides. Leo explains that the G-Stone and Zonder metal have opposing polarities that cancel each other out, but the Zonder metal is stronger now due to all the power Pasdar has. If they don’t do something fast, the G-Stone energy will run out and Guy will die. Pasdar gloats and says he will destroy the green power left by Cain, and Entouji is unable to cut the power from the lines he’s leeching from. Guy calls in and begs Taiga to launch Projectile X so they can counter Pasdar’s tactic. He tells them that he’ll come out on top as the world’s strongest cyborg before the signal gets cut. Leo tells Taiga to believe in Guy because Projectile X is their only hope now. Taiga says he’ll risk it because he believes in the miracles brought on by the heroes. Leo has Entouji quickly set the launch coordinates before unsealing the Projectile X panels and punching them in. Projectile X launches and reaches Guy’s location, where it opens to reveal Big Volfogg waiting inside. Pasdar tries to shoot it but Liger reflects the beam with the Triple-decked Flying Carrier’ Mirror Particle Cannon. Mic quickly flies in and erects a barrier while the Brave Robot Corps seal themselves in Projectile X. Guy asks the others if they understand what using Projectile X means, and they reply that they’re fully prepared for it in order to defeat Pasdar. Projectile X begins unleashing a reserve of G-Stone energy that that will give them an immense boost in power. Mic’s barrier eventually succumbs and Liger charges the carrier into Pasdar but gets shot down. Projectile X opens up to reveal the Brave Robot Corps fully powered up with G-Stone energy. Guy and the others burst through Pasdar’s barrier and pummel him with everything they have. Guy then locates Pasdar’s core by using his broken Will Knife as a beacon and combines with Goldymarg to deliver the final blow. Pasdar blocks the hammer with his hand and nearly shatters it but ChoRyuJin and Big Volfogg’s constant attacks distract him long enough for Guy to smash through his arm and completely annihilate him. Tokyo drops back into the ground and Mamoru runs towards the Brave Robot Corps only to find them drained and completely silent. Leo sadly notes that they couldn’t change fate after all and Mikoto breaks down into tears. Mamoru cries out for Guy and asks everyone to wake up as his body glows. Suddenly Guy’s vitals return and he tells Mamoru that a 3G member shouldn’t be crying. The GS-Rides start up again and 3G bursts into cheers of happiness. Taiga remarks that they are truly heroes. In space, a fragment of Pasdar floats out where it’s absorbed by a mysterious figure.

Commentary

After a long struggle, 3G finally puts an end to Pasdar in an explosive season finale with the help of the much alluded to Projectile X. One has to wonder what Pasdar was trying to do by lifting a big chunk of Tokyo into space, but luckily everyone came out of it alive including Volfogg who survived Penchinon’s destruction. Of course that didn’t stop the producers from throwing that little tease at us but there’re still nineteen episodes left and a new major enemy to contend with. There seems to be a slight art style change in this episode as several characters sported rugged and less cartoony looks. Mamoru ended up doing very little in this arc apart from purifying Polonaise and getting some minor clues about his origin, which will be further explored in the coming episodes.
