Ideon Ep. 12: Break Through the Enemy Front

0
Summary

On the Gataman Zan, Guhaba sends out Sanra, a spy who hopes to infiltrate the Solo Ship while repairs are being done on the Zigg Mack. The crew of the Solo Ship rest on the bridge. Karala brings some coffee for Bes. Karala says she wants to meet with her sister Harulu and ask her not to attack the Solo Ship. Bes says he’ll think about it. Cosmo, who was watching, walks into the elevator with Bes. Cosmo thinks Bes is giving Karala an excuse to escape. He doesn’t like the fact that Bes lets her do whatever she wants even though she’s a Buff Clan. The two fight each other. Sanra approaches the Solo Ship, which is conducting repairs on its engine. Bento and Joliver argue about repairs while he sneaks aboard the ship. The children practice eating with chopsticks. Deck wants to eat more food, but Lin says they have to ration their food for the time being. Sanra wanders through the ship and is surprised at the large number of civilians. Karala finds Ashura and Lou crying. Ashura says everyone is too nice to Lou. Guhaba visits the injured Damido aboard the Gataman Zan. Guhaba says that Harulu has had her heart broken in the past which is why she’s so mean towards men at times. Damido wonders if there’s any man for her among the Buff Clan. Bento and another soldier find Karala playing with Lou and Ashura and take her away at gunpoint. Karala is brought into the forest on the bridge, where everyone on the ship has gathered. Sheryl tells Karala that by talking about the danger everyone is in, she has caused panic among the crew and is working against them. Bes says he believes in Karala. She still wants to meet and negotiate with her sister Harulu. Suddenly a bomb explodes in the engine room. Sanra escapes aboard a hovercraft. Cosmo throws his knife at the spy, which is about to get away before the Solo Ship’s guns kill him. A little later, Karala once again proposes to meet with Harulu to buy them some time. Bes heads off with her on the Sol-Vainer while everyone else works on repairs. The two head off on a motorbike soon afterwards and approach the Buff Clan forces. Guhaba reports to Harulu about the spy aboard the Solo Ship. Karala heads down to the Buff Clan soldiers with her hands held up.

Karala walks up to her sister. Harulu slaps Karala, knocking her over. Harulu says they have lost many valuable soldiers thanks to her. Karala replies that the Solo colonists didn’t start the fighting. On the Solo Ship, Cosmo wants to head out and assist Bes. Sheryl doesn’t want him to go, but he takes off on the Ideo-Delta with Deck. Harulu tells Guhaba to humiliate Karala, saying she’s sold out the Buff Clan. Guhaba tears off part of Karala’s shirt and knocks her to the ground. Harulu tells her soldiers to laugh at her. Although they are initially reluctant to, they go ahead with her orders and all start laughing at her. Bes watches from afar, enraged, and charges towards the Buff Clan troops with his laser sword and gun. Bes is able to take out a number of soldiers. Guhaba tells Harulu to retreat but Harulu wants to wait and see how powerful he is. Guhaba challenges Bes to a duel. Harulu says they’ll give him Karala if he wins. Bes starts his fight with Guhaba. The Ideo-Delta and Ideo-Buster approach the Sol-Vainer. Cosmo flies the Ideo-Delta over the battlefield and shoots at the Buff Clan. Their duel interrupted, Guhaba tells Harulu to retreat. The three units of the Ideon combine while Bes and Karala flee from the Buff Clan. A number of Gil Baus depart from the Gataman Zan and approach the Ideon. Guhaba follows on his Zigg Mack. The Gil Baus launch hooks at the Ideon and send an electronic current through them. The Zigg Mack follows with its claw attack on the Ideon, which strikes it in the head. The Zigg Mack continues to strike the Ideon. The Ideon rams itself into the Zigg Mack, which sends the electronic currents of the Gil Baus into the Zigg Mack as well. The Gil Baus detach from the Ideon and the Ideon is able to knock away the Zigg Mack. Harulu has her forces retreat. Karala tells Bes there’s no way she can return to the Buff Clan now and starts crying. Bes asks Karala if she’d be alright with an “alien” like him. Karala calls Bes a samurai and hugs him.

Commentary

This episode shows just how cruel Harulu can be as she humiliates her sister Karala in front of everyone. It has now reached the point where Karala has been completely abandoned by the Buff Clan and can never go back to them. Luckily for her she has Bes around, who by this point has obviously fallen in love with her, enough so that he’d take on dozens of Buff Clan soldiers on his own. The remainder of the Solo Ship is still skeptical of her however. Overall another pretty good episode; the show is starting to get interesting after a slow start.
