RahXephon Movement 5: Nirai Kanai/On Earth as it is in Heaven

Souichi briefs Jin and Makoto on the damages from Grave’s attacks and also reports that the RahXephon has started petrifying for unknown reasons. Makoto says that Ayato and the RahXephon are synchronized and asks where he is. Ayato and Quon under go a medical scan since they both have similar markings on their bodies. Itsuki says that’s enough and Ayato is told he can leave. The next day Souichi takes Ayato to TERRA command. Megumi Shitow, Haruka’s sister, comments that Ayato and Jin are like two kids glaring at each other across a school yard and Kim Hotaru thinks Ayato is kind of cute. Jin tells Ayato that there’s nothing wrong with him physically and that they have a temporary residence arranged for him. He tells Haruka to take Ayato there but Ayato doesn’t want her to. Itsuki appears and says he’ll take him since he isn’t one of TERRA. They leave and Souichi asks Megumi a favor. Itsuki asks Ayato if he heard the Mu’s song. Ayato questions the name Mu and Itsuki replies that everything needs a name. They run into Quon and Ayato learns that she’s Itsuki’s sister. They take a boat around the islands and Itsuki explains why they’re named Nirai Kanai. Jin’s personal aircraft flies overhead and Itsuki says that Jin has to go to great lengths to protect Ayato’s RahXephon. Ayato is surprised to hear that the RahXephon belongs to him. Itsuki says that Jin can be a very human person. They arrive at Itsuki and Quon’s house to be greeted by Sayoko Nanamori. Ayato asks if she’s Itsuki’s wife and he says she’s just a member of his staff. Sayoko asks if Ayato will be staying with Itsuki, but Itsuki says Ayato is going to a much better place. Haruka and Elvy eat out and order some beers. Elvy says since Haruka has lost the good person angle with Ayato, she should try being a good woman. A doctor asks Souichi if watching Ayato is wise, and Souichi says that Ayato’s emotional state is probably causing the RahXephon’s petrifaction so it’s all they can do. 

Quon gives Ayato a suitcase and tells him not to block the holes in it. Sayoko and Itsuki take Ayato to a house on a hill. They stop at the base of it and wait for Megumi, who is walking back from the store. Ayato is told he’ll be staying at Megumi’s house, and she clarifies it’s actually her uncle’s. Ayato and Megumi make snide comments at each other and Itsuki says they make a cute couple. Ayato meets Megumi’s uncle, Shougo Rikudoh, and he says Ayato should pretend he’s living at a relative’s house. Ayato says he never had any relatives to visit before. Shougo tells Megumi to take Ayato around the neighborhood. She does and says she can’t believe Ayato is staying at her house. Ayato says he’ll leave but Megumi stops him and says he can’t leave because of a fight with her. Ayato asks what that means and it starts raining. They run into a store for cover and Megumi gets a soda. Ayato offers her his handkerchief but she refuses it. Some schoolgirls walk by and laugh at Megumi, saying the school phobic is out on a date. Ayato asks her about it but she tells him to shut up. He offers his handkerchief again and she refuses it again. Ayato says that at least she has a place she belongs. Ayato looks through his fingers at the scenery and Megumi asks if he’s a photographer. He says he was going to be a painter when he got out of high school. Megumi is surprised there are high schools in Tokyo Jupiter and asks if Ayato wants to go back. He says he does, but can’t at the moment. Megumi offers him some soda, but the marble inside keeps blocking the hole. Megumi laughs at him and says he has to get the marbles in the notches of the bottle. Later that night Ayato goes through the suitcase Quon gave him and Buchi runs out of it. Haruka and a drunk Elvy enter the house and Haruka is happy to see Buchi. Ayato is surprised to see her, but welcomes her home. They all eat dinner and Elvy hits on Ayato, but Shougo pulls him away. He gives Ayato a name plate and tells him to hang it in the doorway. The plate has Ayato’s name on it. Ayato asks Shougo what time it is. Souichi sees the RahXephon has returned to normal and says using Megumi was the right idea. Shougo gets a call from Jin and tells him they’ll take good care of Ayato.
