Rayearth Ep. 22: Cephiro and the Three Countries

0
Summary

Hikaru is surprised to learn there are other countries besides Cephiro. Clef shows them the stars and says that armies from three worlds are headed to Cephiro: Autozam, Chizeta, and Fahren. Emeraude had used her powers to keep out anyone who’d do Cephiro harm. Clef tells the girls they have no need to get involved in the war since they already did their duty. But since some one managed to summon them, then a new Pillar can be found. Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu say they’ll fight to protect Cephiro for their own reasons and Clef thanks them. They discuss helping out by cooking, but Clef tells them they have enough chefs. He gives them new armor which he says won’t evolve, but will change when needed. He says they’ll get weapons from some one else and the door opens.

Presea enters and Hikaru hugs her. Hikaru apologizes for not protecting her but Presea says it’s fine. Clef explains that in her last moments Emeraude wished everyone who died back to life. Presea says she didn’t know the truth behind the legend and feels sorry that the weapons she made caused them pain. Hikaru says that’s not true because they were weapons Presea gave her life for. Clef says such a miracle won’t happen again as they can’t be sure what the new Pillar will wish for as they don’t necessarily have to be from Cephiro. The only condition to be Pillar is to have the strongest heart. The girls’ realize that the armies are attacking now so they can become the Pillar and rule Cephiro. Presea gives the girls back their swords and they are suddenly transported away. The Rune-Gods appear before them and lend their power. They appear in the sky above the castle and Rayearth explains the girls just have to say the Rune-Gods’ names and they’ll appear. They fly high into the sky where the Autozam battleship NSX is. Eagle and his men Geo Metro and Zazu Torque see the Rune-Gods coming and Eagle goes out to greet him in his FTO mecha. He crosses swords with Hikaru and the two introduce themselves.

Commentary

This episode was about getting the girls up to speed on the situation and they find the resolve to fight… again. At least this time the circumstances are a bit different. Presea makes her return and again makes me wonder why they bothered killing her off in the first place. The Knights get new armor, their swords, and their Rune-Gods and right away they’re pitted against pretty boy Eagle, who uses an actual giant robot. Autozam is very high tech and makes me wonder what the other two countries will be like. The race is on to find the new Pillar and right now anyone could cross the finish line.
