Rayearth Ep. 24: The Magic Knights and the Battleship NSX

0
Summary

At night, Umi can’t sleep so she goes to see Clef. After an awkward silence, Umi apologizes for her attitude when she first came to Cephiro. Clef assures her she did nothing wrong and that he’s the one who should apologies for hiding the truth and getting turned to stone. Umi says he still helped them a lot and he tells her to focus on protecting herself this time. Ferio finds Fuu gazing out a window and tells her he’s been worried since the Knights went back to Earth. Fuu says they’ve been distraught about what happened to Emeraude. Ferio gives Fuu an orb which he explains returned to him when she left. He insists she takes it and tells her he always wants to remember her smiling. Hikaru wakes up after having that dream again. She gets up and wanders around until she comes across Lantis comforting a child named Mira who had a bad dream.

Mira believes something bad will eat her but Lantis assures her that it’ll be fine. She wonders if the new Pillar will project them but Lantis doesn’t answer. He picks Mira up to take her back to bed but stops when he reaches Hikaru. Mira identifies herself as a village girl Hikaru had saved before and Hikaru is glad to see her again. Mira explains that Lantis had saved her and brought her to the castle. Lantis walks away and Hikaru chases after him. Hikaru wants to see what the residential area is like and promises to play with Mira at another time. When they get close Mira decides to go the rest of the way by herself and runs off. Now alone with Lantis, Hikaru asks him to hit her for killing his brother and to leave Umi and Fuu alone. She says that even though they tried to act cheerful around her, she knows they were probably crying when alone. Lantis refuses to hit her because he knows they’re not to blame. He says Hikaru was probably crying when alone too so they shouldn’t blame themselves. He’d rather blame something else, but Primera interrupts him. She tells Hikaru that Lantis belongs to her and that she’ll be tough on romantic rivals. Clef’s voice tells Hikaru to look out the window where she sees the NSX. Hikaru and Lantis meet up with the others and Lantis identifies the ship as Eagle’s. The Knights head out saying they want to talk to Eagle because they don’t want to fight without knowing the opponent’s motives again. They summon their Rune-Gods and fly off. Zazu and Geo admire the Rune-Gods for sending the FTO to the repair bay for the second time, with the first time being caused by Lantis. The Knights hear a strange noise and are surprised to see Alcyone arrive. Alcyone attacks and knocks Umi out of the sky.

Commentary

This episode sees the girls spending time away from each other, allowing us to gain further insight into worries they’ve been trying to keep from the others. In the process it not so subtly pairs each of them off with a guy. Fuu and Ferio are to be expected, but Umi and Clef? Which one of them would be considered the pedobear in that relationship? Lantis continues to show he’s actually a softy and he’s sensible enough to know the Knights aren’t to blame for his brother’s death. Unfortunately Primera had to ruin the mood. Eagle reappears but he’s upstaged by the return of Alcyone who still refuses to learn her lesson. However this time it looks like she has some serious power at her disposal.
