Rayearth Ep. 35: Umi and the Ambition of Tarta & Tatra

0
Summary

Zazu rushes to Eagle and Geo because of the call that got cut off. Geo tells him to get the FTO along with Geo’s GTO ready for launch. Zazu tries to ask Eagle if he’s okay but Geo gets him to leave. Eagle has another coughing fit and Geo gives him six hours to rest before they launch. Eagle says Geo is a nice person but Geo insists that he’s upset. Presea continues to struggle with the shadows engulfing Hikaru. Nova tells Hikaru she was able to believe in her friends, but couldn’t overcome a part of her heart she didn’t know about. Emeraude’s crown continues to lose its glow. On the Bravada, Umi complains about the clothes she was forced to wear and the cage she’s being held in. Tatra and Tarta introduce themselves but Umi won’t give her name. She starts bickering with Tarta until Tarta lets her out. Tarta challenges Umi to a duel and gives her back her glove. Umi summons her sword and declares her name. They fight and Umi eventually wins. She’s surrounded by guards but Tatra calls them off. She then offers Umi some tea.

Tatra serves the tea and assures Umi there’s no poison in it. Umi asks the sisters why they’re invading Cephiro so Tarta explains. She says Chizeta is cramped so they want more territory. If either of the sisters becomes the Pillar they believe they can make their country bigger. Tarta claims the Pillar can do anything but Umi tells them the Pillar can’t do anything for herself because she can only pray for the world’s stability. She asks them if they really want to be some one who has to die just because they fall in love and says if they insist on invading she’ll have to fight them. Umi summons Selece and leaves. Tarta wants to summon the djinn to go after Umi, but Tatra asks if Tarta is okay with fighting Umi. They summon the djinn anyway and block Umi’s path. Umi tries fighting them but it turns out quite silly. She manages to cut them but when she does the djinn let out weird voices. Umi captures the djinn with her Sapphire Whirlwind and has a vision of Hikaru in trouble. Fuu also senses something’s wrong as attendants enter. Aska celebrates her capture of Fuu and thanks Sang Yung for his giant version. Chang Ang tells Aska not to use high level illusions anymore but she pretends not to hear her. Fuu is taken to see Aska and Chang Ang is impressed by her manners. Eagle rests in bed, Hikaru continues to be encircled in shadows, and Emeraude’s crown still glows.

Commentary

As amusing as a lot of this episode was, I’d still rather more time be spent with Hikaru. Umi hangs out with the Chizeta princesses, learns their motives, and warns them that being the Pillar isn’t as great as it sounds. She and Tarta are a lot alike so naturally they don’t get along, but Tatra is there to smooth things over. Umi has to fight the creepy genies by herself this time and she actually does well against them. Perhaps it has to do with the sisters’ hesitation to fight her. Next up it’s Fuu’s turn to hang out with Aska.
