Rayearth Ep. 38: Eagle’s All-out Attack on Cephiro Castle!

0
Summary

Hikaru sits beside Presea’s bedside and thanks her for her help. Presea asks about Lantis, but Hikaru doesn’t remember saying anything to him. Umi hopes Ascot will be all right but Caldina assures her that Fuu healed him. Caldina wonders about Clef and Umi tells her he said he was fine before he had kicked her out of his room. Caldina jokingly asks if Umi has a thing for Clef but she denies it and leaves. Ferio tells Fuu his wounds are fine but laments that the one to save her in the end was Clef. She assures Ferio that the one who saved her on the Dome was him. Eagle tells Geo he had a good nap and the NSX sets course for the castle. Hikaru chases after Mokona and finds herself in a garden where Lantis is. Hikaru remembers what happened with Nova and is hesitant when Lantis invites her to sit. She thanks him for carrying her to her room and he realizes she doesn’t remember saying she loves him. Hikaru is excited by all the birds perching on Lantis and some fly over to her. Lantis says how flowers bloom without the Pillar and Hikaru is impressed the people could make the garden without a Pillar. Lantis asks what she’s fighting for and Hikaru says it’s for herself. Lantis gives Hikaru a pendant belonging to his mother and says it will protect her. Hikaru hears Clef’s voice and the castle trembles. Hikaru looks out the window and sees the NSX.

Eagle prepares the ship’s cannons and says he wants to test their reaction to such an attack. The NSX fires and Clef activates the castle’s barrier. It survives the hit and Eagle decides to head out. He tells Geo he’s analyzed the barrier and knows where he can break through. Geo says he’ll go with him. Clef is exhausted from the first attack and says another one is coming. A strange glow surrounds Alcyone as Eagle and Geo launch in their robots. The Knights summon their Rune-Gods and head out. They attack the FTO and GTO with their magic but that gives Eagle a chance to analyze them. He takes down Windam and Selece, and uses the latter as a shield to prevent Hikaru from attacking. The barrier surrounding Alcyone breaks and Debonair’s laugh can be heard.

Commentary

A problem with the Chizeta and Fahren episodes was that it really didn’t feel like there was anything at stake. They just came off as gag characters, but not Eagle. Eagle was always formidable and that’s even truer now that he has Geo backing him up. He’s a real threat, taking the battle to the castle directly and handily defeating Umi and Fuu. Though I guess that’s not really saying much since Umi and Fuu always job when Hikaru is around. The first half of this episode was all about relationships. Full disclosure: I totally ship Hikaru/Lantis. She doesn’t remember confessing to Lantis, but he doesn’t seem averse to the idea. Fuu/Ferio is a constant of the universe, but I’m still not big on Umi/Clef. If they just wanted to pair Umi with someone, Ascot would make a bit more sense. At any rate, not only do they have Eagle to worry about but Debonair is also up to something.
