Rayearth Ep. 46: Hikaru in Shock! The Truth About Nova

0
Summary

Hikaru finally manages to take down Seville with a Flame Arrow. Clef contacts Hikaru and she asks about Lantis. Clef tells her to calm down or else Nova will become stronger. Umi, Fuu and the others look for Hikaru but Alba gets in their way. Despite their combined efforts Alba overpowers them. Umi and Fuu’s determination to protect the others grant them more power and they defeat Alba. They then hear Hikaru’s voice cry out in disbelief as Clef tells her the truth about Nova. Seville revives itself and attacks Hikaru. She thinks about how after killing Emeraude she kept screaming that it couldn’t be true in her heart, but couldn’t say it out loud since Emeraude was finally free. Clef explains that her regret, sorrow, and aggravation at herself burned a shadow in Cephiro which became Nova. Hikaru realizes that Nova claimed to love her because she can’t forgive herself. Since Nova is herself Hikaru says she’s the one who hurt Lantis. She screams and looses an attack that completely destroys Seville. Nova feels her heart hurting and Debonair explains it’s probably Hikaru’s emotions flooding into her. Debonair looks at the captured Lantis and says she’ll have to use his strong heart to her advantage. Nova feels that Hikaru is thinking about Lantis and crying. Nova wonders why her heart is hurting.

Hikaru goes to Eagle and apologizes for Lantis being hurt and abducted. A weakened Clef forces himself to move so he can ask Alcyone about Debonair but Presea tries to talk him out of it. Hikaru tells Eagle about Nova and says she wanted to apologize to some one who also loves Lantis. Eagle lets Hikaru cry into his chest and she further apologizes for being unable to dislike him even though he’s an enemy. Eagle says he’s the same. Clef makes it to Alcyone as a large earthquake rocks the castle. Mira and her friends wonder if they can be strong like the Knights and Mokona tries to tell them something. Ascot starts to run off to find Umi but Caldina tries to stop him. He says it’s okay if Umi doesn’t return his feelings because he’s just happy being in love with her. Eagle tells Hikaru not to cry because it will make Lantis sad. Hikaru says Lantis probably hates her because of what she did to his brother. She wonders why she loves him when she knows he’ll never love her back but Eagle says if she did know it wouldn’t be true love. Eagle thinks Emeraude went through the same thing because all people have feelings they can’t control. He says it’s like that for him too since he wants to be friends with Hikaru and Lantis and even though he truly wants to save Autozam he couldn’t give up on his true wish. Eagle then coughs up some blood. Clef asks Alcyone where Debonair is but she says she doesn’t care about a Cephiro that doesn’t have Zagato in it. She wonders why she’s alive since she wanted to die with him at least and starts crying. Hikaru asks if Lantis knows about Eagle’s sickness, but he says Lantis is the last person he wants knowing. He asks that if he becomes the Pillar for Autozam to be allowed to analyze the system. He inquires about what Hikaru will do if she becomes the Pillar. Time is running out as Cephiro continues to run away.

Commentary

Emotions run high this episode as Hikaru learns the truth about Nova. All the negative feelings that she bottled up took form and are now running amok. Naturally, Hikaru considers all the bad things Nova has done to be her own fault but she’s really being too hard on herself. Eagle comforts her and he has a good point about emotions not being bound by reason. People will feel what they feel even if it’s not logical. Nova is also experiencing feelings she can’t explain which will probably spell trouble for Debonair later. Outside of that, I thought the fight against Alba was pretty cool with everyone working together but still having a hard time. It did end in one hit after a random power up, but hey, that hasn’t happened in a while.
