SRW OG: The Inspector Stage 14: With Those Pure Eyes

Summary

The woman Archibald had searching for the Chokijin has been corrupted by the Einst and talks about how the Chokijin prevent the world’s correction. A mysterious individual thinks it’s about time she made her appearance. Gilliam explains that he created System XN to cross dimensions, but during an experiment he was sent to this world. He resolved to live there and hid himself in case some one else jumped over. System XN is designed to link to Gilliam to increase the chance of success, which is why the Shadow Mirrors are after him. Lamia says they jumped with one squad of ships, but not all of them made it due to the instability of dimensional jumps. She says her language module was damaged during the jump and explains that she’s the seventeenth unit of the artificial human W-Series. Sanger asks about Wodan, and Lamia says he was made based on the other world’s Sanger. She adds that the Thrudgelmir is a Grungust Type 3 that they brought over and it was modified with technology from the current world. Excellen says that a world of constant war would be ideal for those who want it, but hell for everyone else. Kyosuke says he won’t let them have their way, and Gilliam concurs, saying that they need to destroy System XN. Kai asks what they’ll do with Lamia, and Daitetsu says that he’ll report that the spy W17 is dead. He says that it’s fine since she shares the same goals as them and no one objects. Excellen gives Lamia a hug and welcomes her back, asking about her voice. Lamia says it was fixed, but there are still problems, and Excellen says she likes her better that way. Lamia asks if it’s really okay for her to stay and Excellen assures her it’s okay. The others reassure her as well, and Lamia doesn’t think it’s a bad feeling. Lemon says it’ll take time to fix System XN but Vindel is sure they’ll run into Gilliam again. Lemon wonders if Mitsuko will come through and Vindel says they’ll use each other and victory will be theirs. Kenneth asks Daitetsu about the Kurogane, and Daitetsu says they’re better allies than the Shadow Mirrors. He asks what happened to Laker but is told he’s on vacation and that what happens to him depends on their actions. Arado tells Kai that Seolla definitely remembers him, and Kai entrusts him with the Wildwurger. Arado points out that he sucked at piloting in The School, but Kai says he’s lucky and tough. Marion says the Wildwurger is incomplete and Kai adds that Arado will have to join the Federation and fight battles other than ones to save Seolla. Arado says he’ll do it and Kai tells him to be ready for training everyday. Kenzo tells Ryusei and Rai about Mai and that she’ll join the SRX team. Rai brings up that Mai used to be Levi, but Viletta says that she’s lost her memories about being Levi. Ryusei is mad that she’ll pilot the R-Gun Powered without knowing anything but Kenzo says they’ll need Mai’s power for the upcoming battles. Ryusei says that’s no different from The School and Rai thinks she’ll learn the truth sooner or later. Kenzo orders them to keep it a secret and to keep Mai away from the others. Ryusei and Rai leave in disgust and Kenzo tells Aya he’ll explain everything to Mai once the remains of Levi’s mind are gone. He adds that that’s up to Mai.

Daitetsu says the next operation is in tandem with the Neo DC, but Lefina says her crew has doubts about how the alliance was formed. Ratsel asks if Shadow Mirror will be participating, but Daitetsu says Kenneth didn’t mention it. Lamia says the Shadow Mirror will leave the DC and act independently and Gilliam adds that they’ll be after him. Daitetsu says they have to take back Hawaii first and Ratsel says the Kurogane will go to Tesla Leich to get what Bian left them. Aguija and Sikalog engage the Shirogane’s forces when Masaki and Ibis arrive and attack Aguija. More of the Hagane’s forces arrive and Sikalog attacks them. Kyosuke hits him with his revolver stake, but Sikalog takes no damage and knocks the Alteisen away. Katina and her team free the base and Tasuku asks Ryusei who’s piloting the R-Gun Powered and why they can’t meet her. Sikalog and Aguija retreat and Kai tells Masaki not to chase them. Kyosuke realizes that the Alteisen doesn’t have enough power to deal with the Shadow Mirror and Inspectors when he hears a voice. A circle of flame appears and the ATX team recognize the feeling as the one from China. Kyosuke, Excellen, Bullet and Kusuha get enveloped in darkness and find themselves floating in a strange space. The Personlichkeit appears and its pilot introduces herself as the Einst Alfimi. She says she’s happy to see Kyosuke and wants him to go with her to the Silent World. Personlichkeit emits a dark energy that immobilizes the Alteisen and causes Excellen pain. Bullet attacks Alfimi, but her familiars block the attack. She says Bullet and Kusuha have the power, but not the right, and mentions the land of beginnings, the power of the guardian and another root. The familiars blast the Grungust Type 3 away and Alfimi tries to take Kyosuke with her. The Alteisen manages to knock Personlichkeit’s hand away and Kyosuke says he’ll decide where he’ll go. He fires at Alfimi and she wonders why he rejected her. They return to normal space and Alfimi is confused, saying that Excellen’s body is theirs. Excellen asks what she wants but Alfimi leaves. Kyosuke wonders about Alfimi and how she’s obsessed with him and Excellen.

Commentary

The exposition continues from last time and ends with Lamia being accepted back into the fold. She was so huggable during that scene and I’m glad she got one. This bunch sure loves to take in former enemies, don’t they? Mai is another example of this, but she’s being treated in a way that Ryusei and Rai aren’t happy about at all. Laker is being used as a hostage, so our heroes have no choice but to accept Graien’s regime for now and work with the DC to attack the Inspectors. They free Hawaii pretty quickly, and it brings to light a problem. It doesn’t seem like Obari is very good at directing group battles. There’s a tendency for characters to just disappear during a battle while a select few characters are seen doing all the major work. It’s like playing a mission only using the story relevant characters the game forces you to launch. Case in point, we see Lamia flying towards her teammates when they get enveloped by the darkness, but when they come back, where is she? Thus far The Inspector has been an improvement on Divine Wars in most ways, but I think Divine Wars handled that particular aspect much better. The Einst finally do something after their initial appearance in episode two, and we meet the cute and equally creepy Alfimi. She’s got the hots for Kyosuke and wants to take him home with her, but she’s familiar with Excellen as well. On top of that she says some weird things to Bullet and Kusuha too. I’m sure her words will be much clearer in the future.
