SRW OG: Divine Wars Stage 14: Operation Breakout

0
Summary

In orbit, Katina and Russel return to the Hiryu Kai from reconnaissance duty. Kyosuke says the battles will be tougher in the future and Excellen wishes Sanger was there. Bullet spots the Hagane and the two battleships hook up. Daitetsu sends over the Hagane‘s PTs and Sean invites him for a drink after the operation. Gilliam briefs the pilots about Operation Breakout, the main goal of which is to take out descending enemy forces. He explains that the Hiryu Kai and Hagane will use their Break Fields to charge the enemy fleet. Masaki asks what a Break Field is and Gilliam answers it’s a glorified barrier caused by the Tesla Drive. Gilliam adds that the Giganscudo will be used for added protection. Tasuku and Radha Byraban finish adjusting the Giganscudo. Radha asks if he’ll be all right and he replies it’s the best way to test his luck. Gilliam finishes his explanation and the pilots are dismissed. Gilliam gives Ingram frontline command and Rai thinks of how his father is on the UCC flagship, the Macht. On the Macht, Lily tells Maier about the Hagane and Hiryu Kai. Maier orders two Peregrine class battleships and the Troye unit to intercept them. He also tells Sanger to go and says the winner of the battle will become Earth’s true protectors. He adds that Sanger has to follow the path he must. Maier wonders if Rai can carry the same fate as him and Elzam. The ATX and SRX teams meet in the hangar and introduce themselves. Rai ignores them and Ryusei apologizes, saying he has extenuating circumstances. Aya asks why Kyosuke is the acting captain and Excellen says they have extenuating circumstances as well. Ryusei runs after Rai but Rai assures him he’ll fight the enemy no matter who it is.

Lily suggests the Hiryu Kai and Hagane will use their Gravity Cannon or the Tronium Cannon to attack the fleet and Maier says they need to destroy them before they get in range. The two Peregrines attack the Hagane and Hiryu Kai, but the Break Fields block all damage. Lefina says they can’t attack when the fields are up and asks Tasuku to handle it. Leona recognizes the Giganscudo and Julia orders the Troye unit to attack with their new Guarlion Customs. Their attacks do nothing, but the Hiryu Kai detects the Grungust Type 0. Everyone is surprised a Sanger uses his zankantou to damage the Giganscudo. He then flies under the Hiryu Kai and uses his Hyper Blaster to damage the ship, knocking out the Break Field. The Troye unit attacks and destroys the Gravity Cannon. Lefina orders the PTs to launch and the Break Field to be brought back up. Tetsuya suggests they give cover fire, but Daitetsu says they can’t and to continue charging the Tronium Cannon. Kyosuke faces Sanger alone and asks him why he defected. Sanger replies that the Federation needs to be changed from the outside and that a violent struggle is needed. The UCC forces begin their descent and the Hagane charges forward, ramming the Hiryu Kai. It fires the Tronium Cannon and destroys the descending forces. Maier is impressed and the Hiryu Kai charges the Macht. The Cybuster launches and heavily damages it with an Akashic Buster. The PT forces take out Peregrines and Guarlions. Ingram and Rai head to the Macht, but Julia gets in their way. Ingram kills her with his Disc Slicer and Rai flies past Leona to the Macht, which is falling to Earth. Onboard, Maier tells Lily to order their forces to retreat and for her to leave with Sanger. The Macht starts breaking up and Rai flies to the bridge. Rai tells Maier he has to live and take responsibility. Maier tells him that the fate of the Earth Sphere rests with him. An explosion knocks Rai away and Maier says he has no regrets as the Macht explodes. Rai falls into the atmosphere and wonders if he’ll have the same fate. Ryusei and Irm show up and save him from burning up. On Earth, Elzam watches the Macht‘s wreckage from the Kurogane‘s bridge.

Commentary

A lot going on in this episode. This mission was actually supposed to be the climax of Kyosuke’s route, but instead the Hagane joins them and the paths merge sooner than expected. There won’t be any R-1 vs Alteisen, but oh well. The Giganscudo makes its debut and Julia and Maier both meet their ends here. Like Bian, Maier was never really a villain. He just did whatever he could to ensure the survival of the human race. Some character development for Rai as well. No matter what he says, it’s obvious he’s still cares about his father. Maybe now he’ll lighten up a bit. Now with the UCC forces crushed, all that’s left is to cut off the head of the DC.
