SRW OG: Divine Wars Stage 16: Bian’s Last Words

Summary

The Hagane‘s forces descend on Aidoneus and Elzam orders the remaining troops to attack while he heads out in his Guarlion Custom Trombe. Ryoto guides the SRX Team to the island while the other PTs engage Tempest’s forces. He attacks Latooni but she evades. He’s surprised to hear a child’s voice and wonders if she’s the School kid Tenzan told him about. Latooni matches up the data and confirms Tempest’s identity. Ryoto leads the SRX team to an underground entrance and Rob scolds Ryusei for transforming. He tells him not to die and that he’ll show him the best of Burn Blade 3 when he gets back. Thomas appears and attacks the SRX Team. Ryoto says he’ll pay Thomas back and he’s surprised that Ryoto is alive. They dodge each other’s fire and Thomas says he’ll put Ryoto to sleep for good. The Hagane engages the Kurogane and the PTs take out more AMs. More AMs launch but Daitetsu says it isn’t time yet. Tempest locks into Latooni but Irm attacks him with his Boost Knuckle. Bullet then hits Tempest with his T-Link Rippers and Latooni hits him with the Wildraubtier‘s beam rifle. She says revenge accomplishes nothing and Tempest crashes into the ocean. Ryusei asks if it’s time yet but Ingram says they have to wait for the captain’s orders. Elzam attacks Rai and Rai asks if he wants the war to go on. Elzam replies until they achieve victory but Rai reminds him the Macht was sunk. Elzam says their father was carrying out his duty and Rai says Elzam is still willing to sacrifice anything for his ideals, which is why he killed Cattleya during the Elpis incident. Elzam says emotions get in the way of victory and that if Rai can’t shoot him, he won’t be able to fight the true enemy. Rai chases after him and Elzam says the fight will determine if they can protect the Earth Sphere. The Hagane‘s troops are losing ground and Daitetsu asks if any more reinforcements have shown up. Eita says there hasn’t and Daitetsu orders the Cybuster to launch. Thomas is about to finish Ryoto off, but runs away when he sees the Cybuster. He says it’s as good a time as any to leave the DC. Everyone’s happy to see Masaki and he says that the hero is always the last to arrive. Masaki uses the Cyflash and destroys the enemy forces. Daitetsu orders the others to attack the entrance and Masaki feels faint. Shiro pulls out a bottle of Kusuha’s health drink but Masaki says he’d rather die than drink it. Kuro notes that he’s gotten better already and Shiro says it works without even drinking it. They gather around the entrance but it blows up. Bian emerges in his Valsion and Bullet charges at him, only to get hit by Valsion’s ultimate attack, the Cross Smasher. Bian congratulates them for making it so far and introduces himself.

Ryusei calls out to Bullet but doesn’t get an answer. Kyosuke and Excellen attack but are stopped by a barrier. Bian says they can’t protect the Earth but Ryusei and Aya say the DC is what’s threatening the Earth. Bian says if he didn’t act, the aliens would have already conquered the Earth. They dodge a Cross Smasher and Bian adds that the Federation wanted to hand over the Earth to save themselves, which is what the Antarctica meeting was for. He created the DC to protect the Earth and declare war on the aliens. Aya says he could have worked with the Federation, but Bian cuts her Gespenst Type-TT‘s legs off. Masaki accuses Bian of just wanting to rule the world but Bian replies that the Earth needs to be unified under martial law. Bian challenges them to defeat him and protect to Earth themselves. He fires another Cross Smasher and Ryusei charges in, saying he can’t forgive some one for dragging so many into a war. Bian says those who can’t deal with that aren’t worthy of victory. Ryusei attacks with the R-1‘s T-Link Knuckle, but is knocked away by the barrier. Ingram comes up with a plan and tells Masaki that the Cybuster is the only one powerful enough to damage the Valsion. Latooni and Excellen attack from above while Ingram and Ryusei attack the barrier with the Disc Slicer and T-Link Knuckle. Kyosuke attacks the middle with the Alteisen‘s Revolver Stake and Irm follows up with his Calamity Sword, which destroys the barrier. Masaki then hits the Valsion with the Akashic Buster, heavily damaging it. Bian accepts them as Earth’s guardians and walks off towards the sunrise. The Valsion finally falls over and explodes. Elzam orders everyone to retreat and tells Rai that Earth’s fate has been left to them. Adler flees and declares that as long as he’s alive, so is the DC. Shu emerges from the rubble and tells Masaki that the true battle against the Aerogators will begin. The DC emblem burns on the remains of the Valsion.

Commentary

This would have been the climax of Ryusei’s route, but once again we have the ATX Team in on the fun. For some reason Thomas is still alive, but it’s kind of pointless since he runs away and is never seen again anyway. Shu also shows up, but I believe this is the last we’ll see of him for now. Tempest seemingly meets his end, but he’s not finished yet. This episode shows what most mech animes lack most of the time: strategy. Instead of just shooting at it until it dies, they come up with plans and formations. Keeping the Cybuster back until it could take out all the AMs at once was pretty smart. And when the Valsion showed up, they had to work as a team and combine their powers to defeat it. As much as Masaki likes to think he’s the hero, he couldn’t do much on his own. Bian finally meets his end and you can’t help but have a high opinion of him. He was simply a man who loved the Earth and wanted to protect it at any cost, even if he had to become evil. Truly a great man… he just needed to pick his subordinates better. Speaking of, Adler is still around and he’s not ready to give up yet. There’s also the Aerogators to worry about.
