SRW OG: Divine Wars Stage 18: Lune and the Valsione

0
Summary

In space, Shu gets a reading and figures the area will become a gate. Bian’s daughter Lune and her Valsione meet him and asks if her dad died on Aidoneus. Shu tells her it was the Hagane and the Cybuster and asks if she’ll revive the DC. She answers no, but says she’ll settle things. Shu offers his help but she says she doesn’t trust him before leaving. Shu says they will make their next move soon. At Izu base, everyone enjoys some time off. Ryusei goes over R-1‘s data and gets an email from his mom, saying she’ll be discharged soon. Tasuku complains to Russel and says he should have gone with Princess Shine to Tokyo. Russel says that group has it’s own problems. Shine goes sight seeing and Latooni wonders if her frilly dress is appropriate for a bodyguard. Shine tells her she has to look appropriate if they’re going to be together and Latooni asks about Giado and Garnet. Shine assures her she looks good in it and Giado accuses Garnet of telling Shine about the outfit. He comments that Latooni has lightened up a lot. Laker tells Daitetsu and Lefina that the DC has a new base and asks if they know of Project Ark. They answer that it’s a preservation project by the EOTI that established the Moon Cradle. Laker says there’s also an Earth Cradle that was built secretly. It has a tough outer shell, factories and military barracks, making it a perfect base. Lefina asks if it’s in Africa and Laker says Gilliam is looking into it. Lefina comments that the battle against the DC isn’t over yet. Kyosuke asks Bullet about his health but Excellen brings Kusuha in. Excellen drags Kyosuke away while Bullet tries to ask Kusuha out. She agrees, reminding him that she said she’d accompany him once he was out of the hospital. Bullet celebrates his small step while Excellen tries to get Kyosuke to go on a date with her, but he refuses. Tasuku wishes he had some one he could go on a date with, and Radha offers to join him. Tasuku declines, saying he values his bones too much. He tells Russel about Radha’s yoga and they both decline her offer. Katina arrives and asks Radha to let her pilot the R-Gun, but Radha says it was designed for Ingram’s use. Disappointed, Katina grabs Russel and drags him off to go drinking. Tasuku notes that those two sort of make a couple. Ingram tells Rob to finish the R-2 and R-Gun, but Rob says even the R-1 still needs adjustments and that there’s also the Grungust Type 2. He continues that the R-2 and R-Gun’s Tronium engines are issues and that they also have the plus parts, SRX transformation and R-3 to deal with. Rob says they need personnel and Ingram tells him he asked for help from Mao Industries. Kirk enters, surprising Rob, who says that having one of the people responsible for PTs’ conception would be a big help. Kirk says the R-1 and R-2 have enough tuning so they’ll focus on the R-Gun. He adds that they’ll leave the R-3 to the Kobayashis. Aya finishes a test and Kenzo says she has problems with high TK levels. Aya says she always remembers what happened at the Special Mind Institute, which Kenzo says isn’t her fault. He adds that the SRX will be crucial in the battle against the Aerogators. He says they’ll redo the test with data from a previous test subject, Yukiko Date. Aya realizes that’s Ryusei’s mother.

Masaki, Rai and Ryusei go fishing and Masaki wonders why Rai was able to catch a big one. Shiro asks why Ryusei didn’t leave the base since it’s his day off. Ryusei answers that they told him to stay on the base. He asks why they didn’t leave and Kuro says that Masaki would get lost and never come back. Rai gets up to leave but Shine runs up and hugs him. She says she was scared because some strangers tried to pick her up, but Latooni says it was the Princess who was following people. Ryusei teases Rai for being a ladies man and Masaki notes the change in Latooni. Garnet says there must be a guy she wants to show off for. Latooni denies it, but takes a glance at Ryusei before running away. Giado comments that the guy is pretty thickheaded. Laker informs the captains that strange gravity waves have been detected in the L-5 area. He notes that the readings match when Meteor 3 showed up and that the Hagane and Hiryu Kai are to head to L-5. Everyone returns to the ships and they take off for space. Eita informs Daitetsu that the gravity readings will exceed those of Meteor 3. They detect a single high-speed object approaching them and the PTs head out. Kuro says it’s like Shu, but Masaki says it isn’t the Granzon. The Valsione arrives and everyone is surprised by how it looks like a woman. Ryusei expresses how cute he thinks it is. Masaki charges in and Lune introduces herself as Bian’s daughter. She says that he wasn’t the greatest dad, but he was the only one she had. She vows to avenge him and clashes swords with Masaki. Masaki notes that she’s pretty cute for being Bian’s daughter and tells the others not to interfere since he was the one who finished off Bian. Masaki blocks her attacks and says that the people of Earth shouldn’t be fighting each other. He asks why she didn’t bring the DC along if she was serious, but she says she wanted to handle it personally. Masaki knocks her Divine Blade away and tells her Bian was serious about defeating the aliens and entrusted that task to them. Lune laughs and says she knew she couldn’t win but she feels better. She admits that her dad needed to be stopped and that she would have done so herself. She says she likes them, since Masaki faced her one on one and the others stayed out of it. She says Masaki is a good guy and the first to say she was cute. She asks if she can join the Hagane and Daitetsu agrees since they can get info from her. The Hagane detects something at L-5 and the Aerogators’ automated planet Neviim appears. On it are Atad Shamran and Levi Tolar, leader of the Aerogators.

Commentary

Another lighthearted episode. This one gives the crew some time off so they get to goof around. Latooni’s frilly dress returns to the delight of fan boys everywhere. As several people note, Latooni has come a long way since her introduction in episode 5. Bullet still tries to woo Kusuha and Shine clings to Rai. Ryusei’s still a blockhead and doesn’t notice Latooni’s affections. His interest lies elsewhere and his reaction to the MS Girl inspired Valsione has earned him quite a bit of notoriety, becoming the poster boy for mecha-philes everywhere. We’re introduced to Bian’s daughter Lune, who is hands down my favorite character. At first she seemed hell-bent on avenging her father, but she merely wanted to blow off some steam. She quickly shows affection towards Masaki (much to my chagrin) and joins the Hagane. Finally, the Aerogators make their move after being silent for 16 episodes. With Neviim on the scene, an all out war is about to begin.
