SRW OG: Divine Wars Stage 20: Twilight of the DC

0
Summary

DC forces prepare to attack Geneva while the Federation sends out their forces, including the Hagane and Hiryu Kai, to face them. Atad informs Levi that the harvest is going well and that Barshem has reported the Earthlings have resumed their internal war. Levi says they’ll just observe the situation for now. At Izu, Radha talks to Viletta who tells her that she left Mao Industries. Radha asks what she’ll do but Viletta can’t say. She assures Radha that she’ll be there for them when they need it. On the Hagane, Daitetsu orders the Personal Troopers to launch and Eita asks Rio about her becoming a pilot. Rio says that the decision was postponed. Eita then asks about Ryoto and she says once the paper work is filled out, he’ll be stationed on the Hagane. After assessing the situation, Daitetsu thinks the DC will be attacking from the sea. In the hangar, Rai looks at the R-2 and Giado and Garnet talk about the Gespensts’ Mega Beam Rifle. Latooni walks up to them and Garnet asks about her new glasses. Latooni tells them that Shine said they looked good on her. Garnet says they have to beat the DC quickly and find the princess. The alarms go off and DC forces attack near by. Tenzan destroys Federation Messer fighters with his Valsion Custom‘s Cross Smasher. He detects the Hagane‘s PTs and goes after them. Hans wonders if it’s the GEIM system and suggests they withdraw when the Hagane and Hiryu Kai show up. Adler says once those ships are taken care of nothing will stand in their way. He orders another Valsion Custom to launch. The PTs dodge Cross Smashers and are surprised to see the Valsions. A Valsion Custom piloted by Tempest heads for the ships while Katina shoots down some AMs. Tempest is shocked to see Giganscudo and the GEIM system makes him go berserk, shooting Cross Smashers everywhere and talking about vengeance.

Masaki and Irm attack Tenzan. Irm uses his Final Beam to destroy one of the Valsion’s arms. Latooni and Ryusei attack him but are stopped by the Valsion’s barrier. Tenzan goes on about how fun the game is and how he’s going to crush them. The GEIM systems go into the red zone but Adler says it’s fine and to send out another Valsion. The new Valsion attacks Rai and Aya and Aya senses that Shine is piloting it. Adler says Shine’s precognitive abilities and the GEIM system are the perfect combination unlike the defects from The School. Ingram says Shine is probably under some kind of mind control. He says Rai, Aya, the ATX team and himself with handle the princess while the others take care of Tenzan. Ryusei and Irm tell Latooni to go help the princess. Tasuku struggles against Tempest, who goes on about how his wife and daughter were killed in the Hope Incident, where the Federation destroyed a Colony wall after terrorists stole the Giganscudo. Tasuku says the Gigan has been reborn as a shield to protect the people from the Aerogators. Tempest is about finish him off but is stopped by Leona’s Guarlion. She says Tempest is going against Maier’s wishes, but he doesn’t care. She hits him with her Sonic Breaker and Tasuku kills Tempest with his Sheath Thunder attack. Adler’s Killer Whale detects the Kurogane and Elzam contacts him. He says they should stop fighting and focus on the Aerogators. Adler calls him a traitor and orders them to attack the Kurogane. Latooni analyses the Valsion and discovers it can’t engage more than 8 enemies at once. Ingram says they’ll split up to attack. Excellen suggests they just aim for the limbs so they can save Shine. They all fire on her and Kyosuke destroys an arm. Latooni flies to her and Rai destroys the other arm. Latooni rescues Shine as the others continue to engage Tenzan. Tenzan ignores the others and focuses on Ryusei. Masaki takes out the barrier with the Cybuster‘s Akashic Buster and Irm attacks with his Calamity Sword. Tenzan flies up, only loses Valsion’s legs and Ryusei hits him with his T-Link Sword attack. Tenzan tells Ryusei that they’re the same and that war is the greatest game before his Valsion explodes. Ryusei says he’s different because he has friends. The Kurogane destroys the Killer Whale, killing Hans, as Adler escapes in another Valsion Custom. Lune attacks him and he accuses her of betraying the DC. Lune answers that she never joined the DC and he tries to escape. Sanger pops up and cuts Adler in two. Shine is taken away on a stretcher and Rai looks at Leona’s Guarlion and the Kurogane. In orbit, a Huleh destroys Geneva with its Legion Eraser.

Commentary

With this episode, the DC is finally defeated. Adler, Tenzan, Tempest and Hans all meet their ends here. Tenzan originally came back as an Aerogator puppet in the game, but that is removed from the anime. We get to see the effects of the GEIM system, which is quite similar to Gundam Wing‘s ZERO System. It causes the pilot to go insane in exchange for better piloting skills. Ryusei and Tenzan’s rivalry comes to a close. Right to the very end Tenzan considered war as nothing more than a game. Ryusei could have also walked down that path, but luckily he had his friends to set him straight. Shine is rescued and Sanger, Elzam and Leona help out the good guys. Even though the EFA went through such pains to save Geneva, the Aerogators easily wipe it out anyway. With five episodes left in the series, it’s time for humanity to face its true enemy.
