SRW OG: Divine Wars Stage 5: The Guests from Beyond

Summary

While the Federation was developing Personal Troopers, the EOTI secretly mass-produced Armored Modules and began taking independent actions. Ryusei hangs out in his room, sends an email to Kusuha and thinks about the last battle. Aya contacts him and calls him to a meeting. Ingram reports about the Lion and says it’s not the unknown unit that was encountered previously. Irm says it doesn’t sit right with him, and asks Giado Beneldi what he thinks, but he’s listening to music. Irm says he never changes and Giado takes off his headphones. Vice Commander Sakae Takanaka asks Latooni Subota for the results of the data analysis but she doesn’t answer. Giado apologizes and whispers in her ear. Latooni says she believes it’s based on the F-32 Schwert and Sakae wonders if it’s Isurugi Industries. He adds that places that can build military robots are limited and wonders if it was the Tesla Leicht Institute. Irm says that his dad could have built it, but if he did he would go around bragging about it. Ingram suggests it could have been Bian and the EOTI. They leave the room and meet Ryusei, Aya and Rai waiting outside. Sakae tells Ingram to go with him to Laker’s office so he can explain it to the pilots later. Ingram tells them to standby and leaves. Irm greets Rai and asks how his left arm is doing. Rai introduces the others and Irm recognizes Ryusei as the new rookie. Aya says she’s heard rumors about him and how he was on Ingram’s PTX team and also the son of TLI’s head, Jonathan Kazahara. Irm gives her his phone number and tells her to call him anytime. Latooni and Giado exit and Ryusei voices his surprised at seeing such a young girl. Latooni hurries off and Giado goes after her. Rai asks Irm about her and he says he doesn’t know the details but that she’s good at data analysis and piloting. Laker informs Ingram that they’ll go to Antarctica to guard a secret meeting the government has, which will be disguised the unveiling of the new battleship Shirogane and the EOTI’s new mech. Ingram asks if Laker is opposed to the meeting and he replies it’s over their heads. Ingram asks about the EOTI’s new mech but is told they only know the bare minimum. Ingram says they’ve shown some of their hand already but Laker says to just to focus on Antarctica. Before Ingram leaves Laker says he’ll hurry the outfitting of the second battleship. Ingram thinks that the EOTI won’t let the meeting happen. He enters the briefing room and tells Ryusei, Aya and Rai that the units for the SRX project have been assembled and they’ll help with the fine tuning. Ingram tells them about their Real Personal Troopers, the R-1 for Ryusei, the R-2 for Rai and the R-3 for Aya. Ingram tells them they are now the SRX team and Ryusei wonders what it stands for. Ingram says the R-series will have to wait and tells them about Antarctica. Ryusei packs and gets a message that his email didn’t get through. Meanwhile, Rai emails R-2’s data. Ryusei stops by and asks Rai about his emails. Rai says their security level has gone up because they learned military secrets. Ryusei asks Rai if he’s ok with it but Rai answers he has no desire to contact his family. He tells Ryusei to better understand his situation and to go to bed. Ryusei wonders why Aya didn’t tell him. In a secret lab, Aya floats in a tube while Kenzo watches on.

The battleship Hiryu Kai completes re-entry and XO Sean Webley says it’s been a while since he’s felt the weight of gravity. Captain Lefina Enfield says they were lucky to make it in one piece. Sean says it was a good choice to make her captain but she says she can’t believe she was chosen over Sean or Daitetsu Minase. Sean says he’s unsuited to be a captain and Daitetsu will captain the Shirogane. Sean goes on that she has nothing to be modest about since she graduated the top of her class, she’s beautiful, the youngest captain in the Federation and adds what her three sizes with padding are. Lefina asks how he knew and insists that she doesn’t wear padding. Bridge operator Eun Hyojin tells them they have orders to meet up with the ATX team, who she says got delayed because of the weather. Lefina orders the ship to go to the rendezvous point. At Antarctica, many Gespensts stand around and Ryusei complains about the cold. Aya asks if his hatch is open and he says he wants to see the new battleship with his own eyes. He says it’s cool but Aya reminds him no pictures. He closes his hatch and asks Rai about EOTI’s new machine. Rai says they only know its name is Granzon, which Ryusei thinks is a villain-ish name. Ryusei and Aya think it’s a weird place for an unveiling and Rai thinks a battle is brewing. On the Shirogane, XO Tetsuya Onodera reports the Hiryu Kai is following orders and asks Daitetsu if the ship brings back fond memories. Daitetsu says it’s not all it brings back and remembers when it was nearly destroyed. Albert Grey asks about the security and Tetsuya assures him they have the best. Albert says he’s representing the Earth Sphere and they’d better lay down their lives to protect him. Daitetsu tells Albert to go to the meeting place and he does. Tetsuya says Albert is scared but Daitetsu says it can’t be helped. Bridge operator Eita Nadaka reports that G is headed to the surface. The Granzon surfaces and Ryusei remarks that it even looks villain-ish. Daitetsu orders the pilot to disembark and Tetsuya says the EOTI likes to make a display. Daitetsu adds it’s probably to show off Earth’s power and all that’s left to do is wait for their guests to show up. Shu exits the Granzon and is told preparations are complete. Shu meets with Albert and apologizes for being late. Clouds form and Eita detects a gravitational distortion. Everyone is told the ceremony will begin soon and they get nervous. Albert is told the Aerogators have arrived but Albert says to call them “guests.” A giant spaceship materializes in the sky and Ryusei wonders what’s going on.

Commentary

Quite a bit going on in this episode. First, there are several introductions. Irm gets a more formal introduction and being the ladies man that he is, already slips Aya his number. We also meet Giado along with everyone’s favorite ‘sniper loli’ Latooni. Next Ryusei, Rai and Aya are shown their new mechs but Rai acts quite suspicious. He tells Ryusei that they can’t tell military secrets and that he has no desire to contact family, but then he goes and emails R-2’s data to Leona Garstein, who is his cousin. The first of the series’ two main battleships, the Hiryu Kai, is shown along with 19-year-old captain Lefina and another ladies man, Sean. They’re off to meet the ATX team and they’ll appear in the next episode. Finally there’s Daitetsu and Tetsuya and we also get to see the Granzon in all its glory. With Shu kicking around and the “guests” on the scene, something big is certainly going to happen.
