The A-Funnel equipment for the AGE-FX Gundam AGE-FX was developed by engineer Wootbit Gunhale independently of the AGE System. This resulted from the AGE System’s resources being devoted after the war to developing the Everse System to help with the Mars Ray disease plaguing the Mars Sphere. Unlike Vagan bits, which remained unchanged since their first deployment, the Earth Federation Forces’ funnels were improved through further research. While there was no clear definition of what a funnel was, it was generally thought to be usable thanks to an X-Rounder’s excellent spatial awareness and was controlled by the user’s brainwaves. Despite their effectiveness in battles, funnels were usually considered as secondary weapons and thus they did not have any complex function. This was logical as brainwaves were emitted instantaneously, making it impossible for funnels to function like a mobile suit. Wootbit focused on this “secondary” aspect and by combining the highly expandable frame of the funnels with an electromagnetic linkage system, he managed to develop a system that did not rely on X-Rounder’s capabilities but was fully controlled by AI.
However, as the AI development lagged behind the hardware development, the A-Funnels were initially controlled by another person, but their main control still laid with Gundam AGE-FX’s pilot. Later, the AI program was successfully developed, turning the A-Funnels into fully autonomous units. The two beam torches were for cutting through tough objects while the DODS cannon was capable of precise shooting, and the powerful image analyzer and numerous sensors could gather a large amount of information. With such capabilities, it should be classified as a miniature mobile suit, but Wootbit still called it a funnel as it was equipped on the Gundam AGE-FX. The A-Funnels’ abilities were improved when they were docked with the Gundam AGE-FX. At the back of each funnel was an extendable handle that was deployed when the beam torches’ limiter was released, and the resulting beam saber was taller than the Gundam AGE-FX. The A-Funnel system was the sixth funnel system to be formally adopted after C-Funnel system and records showed that it was the most used Gundam AGE-FX equipment after the war. Funnel designs were named arbitrarily; it could be from the design’s number or even from the first letter of a material’s name.
