An upgraded version of the standard F71 G-Cannon, the F71B G-Cannon Magna was developed by Anaheim Electronics under their Silhouette Formula Project flag using data illegally obtained from the Earth Federation Forces’ Strategic Naval Research Institute. The G-Cannon Magna was equipped with a higher output reactor necessary to power a pair of advanced beam cannons on its shoulders. These beam cannons featured new electron high-speed conversion and acceleration technology that was intended to be a low cost alternative to the VSBR (Variable Speed Beam Rifle) technology featured on the F91 Gundam F91.
