G Gundam Ep. 28: Domon Targeted! The Assassin’s Fighter’s Lethal Sword

0
Summary

In the streets of Neo Hong Kong, a Gundam Fighter is attacked and killed by Kyral Mekirel, aka the God of Death. Wong decides on his chessboard that Domon’s next opponent will be Neo Nepal’s Mandala Gundam. Domon, Rain and the kids watch a Gundam Fight between Schwarz and Neo Norway’s Viking Gundam. The Viking Gundam continuously attacks the Gundam Spiegel with oars, but Schwarz deflects them. When the Viking Gundam tries its final move, Schwarz switches places with a boat and slices off both of the Viking Gundam’s arms. Chibodee comes over on a boat and asks Rain out to lunch. Hoy kicks him and says Rain belongs to Domon. Chibodee tells Hoy it’s ok for him to hit on Rain because she and Domon are only friends. Everyone goes out together, and Chibodee tells Domon that he’s being target by the God of Death, who wins matches without fighting by killing his opponents beforehand. Kyral then appears and attacks Domon. They both jump on a bus, and as they fight, Domon sees that Kyral is blind. He attacks Kyral, but he is sliced by a sword hidden in Kyral’s staff. Chibodee grabs Domon, but his Core Lander crashes into a bus and then a Chinese restaurant. Kyral reports to some monks that he failed to kill Domon, but he will try again and definitely kill him. As Rain tends to Domon’s wounds, Chibodee explains that Kyral was an honest fighter until the 11th Gundam Fight, when an accident inside the cockpit of his Tantra Gundam left him permanently blind. After the Finals, he was kicked out of his monastery and considered to be dead. Now it seems he wants revenge on the Gundam Fight and has returned as the God of Death.

Domon asks for Sai Saici’s help to practice his moves. Sai Saici uses a staff to attack Domon, and he sees that Sai Saici moves as fast as Kyral’s. Domon moves in for the attack, but he remembers that Kyral has a hidden sword. Sai Saici then spots Kyral standing on the water, and Kyral swears he will kill Domon. Domon sees that Kyral has incredible powers of concentration to be able to stand on a single leaf. Chibodee throws a punch at him, but Kyral evades it. He calls them all hypocritical cowards and vows he will send them to hell. Later, Domon wonders what he will do when Schwarz and the Gundam Spiegel show up. He says that Domon is scared of Kyral’s moves and nothing more. He asks what happened to Clear Tranquility and throws a log at Domon, which Domon slices in two with the rusty sword. The next day, the battle begins with Kyral on the offensive. He backs Domon into a corner and sets the God Gundam on fire. Wong wonders if Domon will win, and Master Asia has no doubt about it. Domon uses the Bakunetsu God Finger to knock Kyral down. He then uses his beam saber to activate the Bakunetsu God Slash. He and Kyral fight briefly with beam sabers until the Mandala Gundam falls apart. The monks from Nepal try to self detonate the Mandala Gundam to hide Kyral’s identity as an assassin, but Schwarz stops them. Afterwards, Kyral thanks Domon for helping him to remember what the Gundam Fight is about. He leaves to atone for his crimes. Chibodee thinks that no matter how he atones the guilt will always remain with him.

Commentary

Once again, Wong has chosen a strange, powerful opponent for Domon to fight. This time the villain of the day is the blind Kyral, who is sort of like an evil Daredevil. Kyral seems to be filled with hatred of all Gundam Fighters just because he’s blind. During the fight, he says that he wants everyone else to experience the same darkness he lives with. Again, I wonder why it is that Domon seems to think he can’t win against a guy like this. If he can beat Master Asia, he can beat anyone. Kyral kind of reminds me of Chico Rodriguez, who killed many Gundam Fighters but for a different reason. At least in the end Kyral decided to atone for his sins and leave the Gundam Fight.
