In 2307, Gundam Meister Setsuna F. Seiei travels to an Earth desert to conduct a mock battle to test the new GN Devise Backpack. Over the radio, Celestial Being engineer Ian Vashti explains that the GN Devise Backpack is a new concept that involves having two aligned GN Drives to increase GN particle output and boost mobility. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of GN Drives, one of the drives is substituted with a GN particle storage tank. The backpack also features two sub-arms that can wield additional weapons. Ian explains that the Gundam Devise Exia has a new weapon for Setsuna to use: the Proto GN Luster Sword, which is coated in GN particles to give it the effect of a beam saber while still being a physical weapon. Ian also notes that Lockon Stratos’ Gundam Devise Dynames has been fitted with the same backpack. Ian explains to both of them that beam weapon strength will be lowered for the mock battle, and physical weapons will freeze before making contact. As the battle begins, Setsuna dodges Lockon’s sniper attack and mocks him for exposing himself, to which Lockon responds that there’s no point in hiding after his first shot missed. Lockon fires again, but Setsuna dodges each time. Setsuna returns fire, so Lockon uses his sub-arms to spin his beam sabers and create a shield. Setsuna ejects all his other weapons and grabs the new Proto GN Luster Sword. He dodges Lockon’s attacks and moves in close to attack. To Lockon’s shock, Setsuna is able to connect the attack and damage the Gundam Devise Dynames’ shield. After the battle, Ian explains that Setsuna’s attack was so fast that it was too quick for the cutoff to activate. Ian concludes that GN particle storage tanks are perhaps more useful than he’d thought, and Lockon is glad it was just a mock battle. Ian didn’t expect there to be real damage in the mock battle, and Setsuna notes that a Gundam Meister’s job is to get the best out of their Gundam. Lockon agrees with Setsuna and says he was probably too focused on it being a mock battle. Ian wants to improve the system for the next test and explains that the double drive is something they plan to make standard on fourth generation Gundams. At that moment, Setsuna catches a flash of a mysterious mobile suit targeting him, but it vanishes without anyone else seeing it.
Coming 15 years after the debut of Gundam 00, the Revealed Chronicle ONA presents new stories set during the TV series. Although it’s CG animation, the short length of these stories is not unlike the Code Geass picture dramas. This short sees Setsuna and Lockon engaging in a mock battle test new equipment (which of course is never seen in the TV series). There’s nothing particularly special about the test, aside from Setsuna catching a flash of a mysterious mobile suit. We’ll have to wait and see if it appears in a future episode. Overall, there’s not much going on here, but it’s nice to revisit Gundam 00 characters and mobile suits after so long.
