Technical and Historical Notes

In early C.E. 71, the Orb Union secretly assisted in the Atlantic Federation’s mobile suit development project. In turn, Orb stole data from the Atlantic mobile suits to create several prototype Gundam Astray units. These prototypes were later mass produced as the MBF-M1 M1 Astray. Orb also produced the MBF-M1A M1A Astray as a space combat variant. The M1A Astray was mostly identical to the M1 Astray, but it featured additional thrusters for space mobility. Its armaments were also mostly identical, but its standard beam rifle was replaced with a sniper beam rifle. Most of the M1A Astrays were deployed at the Sahaku family space station Ame-no-Mihashira, but one unit used by Barry Ho was stationed aboard the battleship Kusanagi.
