The MS-05B Zaku I was the Principality of Zeon’s first mobile suit to see heavy mass production. As a pre-war suit, the Zaku I was retired before the One Year War. However, due to losses, it continued to see limited combat throughout much of the war, mostly being used at isolated bases and by supply convoys. As the war progressed, more old Zaku Is were put back into service. The Zaku I Land Warfare Type was little more than a stock Zaku I repainted in region-specific colors. Most Zaku Is were assigned either to pilots that requested them, or to newly formed squadrons that were unable to obtain the best equipment available. Some saw action in Southeast Asia, and others were assigned to the Midnight Fenrir Corps. Pilot Manning kept his Zaku I throughout the remainder of the war, adding different weapons and option parts to suit his liking. These included a shield, the MS-07B Gouf’s heat sword, and even a shield salvaged from a fallen RGM-79 GM.
