The MSA-005X-2 Methuss X-2 was a prototype unit developed at Anaheim Electronics’ Granada branch. In contrast to the concept of the MSA-005X-1 Methuss X-1, the X-2 was designed to work both in space and under gravity. The design team included members for the former MIP, which designed weapons for the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War. The X-2’s design resembled that of the Earth Federation Forces’ ORX-005 Gaplant, developed at the Augusta Newtype Labs. Similar to the Gaplant, the X-2 could mount large boosters. The X-2’s intended role was anti-ship combat, and a drastic weight reduction allowed it to carry out hit-and-run attacks with its large mega particle cannons. However, the weight reduction came with a downside – thinner armor. The combination of thinner armor and fixed beam sabers in the knee armor left the X-2 with compromised close combat abilities. Following tests with an additional prototype unit, the design was refined and produced as the MSA-005 Methuss.
