After the AEUG stole three RX-178 Gundam Mk-II units from the Titans in UC 0087, one was sent to Anaheim Electronics for study. The data gathered from disassembling the Mk-II led to the creation of the MSF-007 Gundam Mk-III. The Mk-III featured an overhauled movable frame and utilized Gundarium alloy, which was more lightweight and improved both defensive capabilities and mobility. The Mk-III returned to the starting point of mobile suits – organic movement similar to the human body. The Mk-III’s armaments included a 2-barrel beam cannon, a shield, a beam saber and a long barrel beam rifle. Anaheim produced several Mk-III units for data gathering purposes. Unit 8 featured the same anti-beam coating as the MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki. Its coating was red, indicating that the suit was intended for ace pilot Quattro Bajeena (aka Char Aznable). Unit 8 was secretly transported out of the lunar city of Granada for delivery to the AEUG’s Collier Fleet. However, the transport was attacked en route by Axis mobile suits in the Garden of Thorns, forcing escort pilot Boyd Swan to use Unit 8 in self-defense. Although he was able to defeat the Axis forces, Unit 8 was heavily damaged in the battle.
